New UEFA stadium categories

New regulations and stadium categorisation for next season ! 2010 UEFA stadium regulations

seating capacities of stadiums have to be :

cat 2 : 1,500
cat 3 : 4,500
cat 4 : 8,000

There are various requirements in realtion to TV facilities, VIP seats, VIP parking etc. Cat 4 stadiums "must be equipped with modern electronic access controls and mechanical counting systems delivering real-time data analysis and preventing the use of counterfeit tickets and overcrowding."

Where does this leave Oriel, Dalymount, Tallaght and RDS ? Any idea which category each falls into ?

Oriel could be cat 2 or cat 3 (how many seats now ?)
Tallaght is probably cat 3 ?
Dalymount could be cat 2 or cat 3
RDS could be cat 3 or cat 4

Champions League stadium requirements 2010/11
Round 2 - cat 2 (Dalymount)
Round 3 - cat 3 (Dalymount (if cat 3) otherwise Tallaght, RDS or Aviva)
Playoff round - cat 4 (RDS (if cat 4) or Aviva)
Group stage - cat 4 (RDS (if cat 4) or Aviva)

Europa League stadium requirements 2010/11
Round 1 - cat 2 (Dundalk at Oriel)
Round 2 - cat 2 (Dundalk at Oriel, Rovers at Tallaght, Fingal at Dalymount or Tallaght)
Round 3 - cat 3 (Dalymount (if cat 3) / Tallaght / RDS / Aviva)
Playoff round - cat 3 (Dalymount (if cat 3) / Tallaght / RDS / Aviva)
Group stage - cat 4 (RDS (if cat 4) or Aviva)

Looks like good news for Dundalk and possibly Bohs who may get to play more than one tie at home

As far as seat numbers go that would leave:
Oriel Cat 2 (3000 seats: http://www.dundalkfc.com/news/100403_BETOP.asp)
Dalymount & Tallaght Cat 3
RDS Cat 4

(Morton is a non-runner of course, having only 800 seats - I doubt that Fingal want to install another 700+ in the Clonliffe stand)

Thanks, thought Dundalk might have squeezed into cat 3.

Anyone know enough about Dalymount to figure out if it meets the new Cat 3 requirements ? Or whether the RDS has the "modern electronic access controls and mechanical counting systems" for cat 4 ?

V. Category 3 structural criteria

Section 1: Areas relating to players and officials

Article 56 - Field of play
The field of play must be:
a) 105m long; and
b) 68m wide.

Article 57 - Dressing rooms
The stadium must be equipped with a referees’ dressing room measuring at least
20m2, with a minimum of two showers, one individual seated toilet, six seats and a
desk.

Article 58 - Floodlighting
1 For matches that are being broadcast, the stadium must be equipped with a
floodlighting system maintaining the following minimum average illuminance
(calculated according to Annex I):
a) 1200 Ev(lx) towards fixed cameras
b) 800 Ev(lx) towards mobile cameras
2 In order to ensure that the match can proceed in the event of a power failure, an
independent backup power supply able to provide at least two-thirds of the
equivalent light intensity values must be available.

Article 59 - Parking area
A minimum of 100 VIP parking spaces must be available in a safe and secure area.

Section 2: Spectator-related areas

Article 60 - Stands and spectator facilities
Any standing accommodation as defined in Article 3(1) (i) is prohibited.

Article 61 - Spectator capacity
The stadium must have a capacity of at least 4,500 seats.

Article 62 - Control room
The stadium must have a control room that provides a good overview of the inside
of the stadium and is equipped with communication facilities.

Article 63 - VIP seats
The stadium must have at least 250 VIP seats, 50 of which must be reserved for the
visiting team.
Section 3: Media-related areas

Article 64 - Media working area
1 The media working area must be at least 100m2, to accommodate a minimum of
50 media representatives.
2 Dedicated space must be provided for at least 15 photographers, if possible in a
separate, fully equipped working area.

Article 65 - Main camera platform
The main camera platform must be at least 6m2, to accommodate two cameras.

Article 66 - Press box
The press box for media representatives must have at least 50 covered seats, 25 of
which must be equipped with desks.

Article 67 - TV and radio commentary positions
The stadium must have at least five TV and radio commentary positions.

Article 68 - TV studios
The stadium must be equipped with at least two TV studios 5m long x 5m wide x
2.3m high.

Article 69 - OB van area
The stadium must have an OB van area measuring at least 200m2.

Article 70 - Press conference room and mixed zone
1 Within the stadium, a press conference room or a dedicated section of the media
working area must be available, equipped with a desk, camera platform, podium,
split box, sound system and chairs.
2 This room or section must have at least 50 seats for the media representatives.
3 A space must be available between the dressing rooms and the parking area

I wonder how strict UEFA are with the regulations - would be great if Bohs could play their 3rd round tie at Dalymount aswell

Major work has already been done in the last couple of seasons. A lot of lighting is lost up into the sky.
Anyway, they can't expect clubs to be fully compliant in June/July having released these new regulations in May.
IF we qualify, the 3rd round will go ahead in Dalymount.

has the club had that confirmed ?

last season the 3rd round could have gone ahead at Dalymount (lights only had to be 800)

changes this season (to lights of 1,000 for 3rd round) were decided in late March and came into force at start of May

if that is the only area where dalymount falls short maybe the club will get some leeway - is three months a reasonable time to upgrade floodlights ?

So if Dundalk get through their round they'll have to have all future home games in the capital?

We might have a chance of getting past QR 1, but I think that will be the limit of our ambitions.

no, they can play round 2 at oriel aswell

round 3 would have to be in Dublin
