I honestly think he has a valid point.Forget for a minute that it was Roy Keane that said it,all that was said was that in this country we do have a culture of drinking and that every occasion revolves around drink to a ridiculous degree. did you take in England on that trip? Easily as much, if not more, of a booze culture going on there.
Im not trying to dismiss that England along with other countries do have issues with drink. Its just my opinion but from what I see in England its mainly a binge drinking problem, I dont think that alcohol is an accepted part of their leisure time as it is over here. In Ireland its almost seen as unusual if u dont drink

I dont think there was anything vindictive in what he said. Honestly reading it I thought it came across that he does really care about it, and is acknowledging that we are raised in a drink culture. You cant compare us to the likes of Germany, because they are very controlled drinkers, and are more specifically beer drinkers. Irish people would drink anything, and most are proud of it.
England has problems, they're just not as bad as us. And while it's not a big deal to the average joe blogs, it's a problem for a professional athlete

We've an awful hard time in admitting that as a society, Ireland has a huge drinking culture. I've lived abroad for a few years, in North America and in the UK, and it's plain to see the difference.Quote:

ive lived in the same places MT and, yes, theres a huge difference between Ireland and american drinking. The canucks love their booze too by the way though the binge drinking isnt as much of a problem for sure. But ive spent time in London, Manchester and Liverpool and i can honestly see no difference between the drinking culture there and what i witnessed in Dublin and Galway. And i do admit that Ireland has a drinking culture and a bad one, i just dont think we're alone in that.

I find it hard to believe that newly minted Irish players are any different than young players from other countries. They are better off doing that than doing what Cristiano Ronaldo does with his spare time anyway.
