New Moscow Blasts

The 2 blasts this morning are the latest incidents on Russian territory of overflow from the Caucasus region and it all seems surreal. Putin and his cabal have been spinning yarns non-stop and now are (possibly) reaping the whirlwind. It's a scary situation right now and just a few months ago myself or my partner could have been caught in the blast as we travelled on the redline and she worked at Park Kultur. Lots of questions already popping up in the media and playing right into the lap of a failing government.

Feck I'm heading to Moscow for 4 nights on Sunday.

You'll be fine, there will be a large security presence now, it's generally a pretty safe city.

Even still, heavy security always puts people on edge and there's a chance one or two thing would be off the agenda now.

Neish, having lived there a couple of years and visited/stayed there for 3 times that, you shouldn't be worried more than visiting, say, London. I was about to board a train in November when the St. Petes train was attacked, everything went on as normal. The blasts today weren't aimed at tourists but at the regular/voting Josef's and Olga's. Park Kultur has 2 main lines and only 1 exit, Lubyanka is the interchange for almost half the commuters each morning and evening. The bombs went off at peak morning times in the two busiest spots, and had a double whammy - death and destruction. Now it'll calm for a few months and regardless life will go on.

There's a massive security presence in Moscow at the best of times, especially in the central areas (between army, militia and OMON) and apart from the usual light tourist crime (pickpockets) it's a calm city. I know this sounds trite, but at the end of each conversation I've had today, everyone says "And we just started to have good weather, and this".

Was worried this morning but have benn thinking about it since, it will probably be safer to travel now then later. As the security levels will be hightened. Cheers for all the advice

When I saw this on the news I nearly fainted. I was in that station in November. Oh dear!

I also took that night train from Moscow to St Petersburg that was also bombed.
