The deadline for receipt of financial information for 2010 licence applications was last Friday, January 29th. Financial submissions have now been received from Premier, First Division and Newstalk A Championship clubs. As per the Club Licencing Manual, 5.3.3., a club may request an extension to this deadline where it is able to prove that a delay has been caused by a third party. One club was granted an extension to the deadline to February 3rd. However, as of 5pm on February 3rd, the FAI was not yet in receipt of this documentation.


Late submissions of audited accounts may result in sanction from the Independent Licensing Committee. In 2008, one club was fined €15,000 for the late submission of audited accounts.


Failure to supply audited accounts by February 15th, the date of the Independent Licensing Committee meeting, may result in stronger sanction. In 2009, Cobh Ramblers were denied a licence to compete in the First Division and were instead awarded a Newstalk A Championship licence due to failure to supply audited accounts.


The Independent Licencing Committee, which is comprised of legal, financial and sporting experts independent of the FAI, will meet on February 15th to make decisions on the awarding of licences for the 2010 season. Prior to this meeting, the FAI Licencing Department and criteria experts will examine each application to ensure that all information is correct. It should be noted that of the applications received to date, several clubs have failed to follow the correct application format and, as a result, the FAI has had to seek additional information from the clubs in question.


The financial information received will also be cross-checked against the monthly management accounts, which clubs submit throughout the course of the season. The audited accounts will be analysed to ensure that the monthly management accounts were correct and that no club has breached the Salary Cost Protocol.

To say that one club still hasn't provided their audited accounts.

Seems clear enough to me, but then financial and legal language isn't a Bohs fans stongpoint the last couple of years ;)

So it's basically telling Tom to get in audited accounts by the 15th or they won't get a Licence. Can't think of anyone else that wouldn't have sent them in yet. Presumably he has until then to pay players what they're owed and get a tax clearance cert as well.

Reads that none of the required financial information was in on time to me.

Smacks of trying to convince people they're really cracking down hard. Actions speak louder than words in this instance. If they give Cork a Licence then all this kind of guff will be pointless.

This is setting up for the big fudge pack! They're going to back down and let Cork away with their behaviour. There has to be a back room deal somewhere that we'll all find out about soon. Long live king Tom and his court jester Rodmeister. They will pull this one off!

It's unprecedented for the FAI to release such statements during the build up to the issue of licences.

And previous statements, they've obviously got a hard-on to 'get' TNB'

The problem is that if TNB really does step aside in the next week and a half - then they'll be so relieved and blinded by their victory that they fudge a licence to the new owners, regardless of all the missed deadlines by CCFC.

They need to get rid of him but they can't make a farce of their deadlines. Why should every other club comply with them if they're bending over for Cork?. Approve the FORAS application and let them get on with it without the baggage left from Tom. Is the name Cork City really worth 500k or more?. Deny Tom a licence and it's worth feck all. A possible year without that trading name in the First Division is a small price to pay overall.

posters on here will know that I have had sympathy with Cork City (especially the fans) but fudging/ delaying the licencing deadlines in fast losing what little credibility the process has left.
Either ALL rules apply to ALL clubs or none should apply and lets forget the whole licencing fiasco as the FAI appear incapable of operating it.

Presumably the FAI are over-covering themselves given TNB has shown he's not averse to suing when things go against him?

I think they're setting themselves up so that they have clearly set out there stall with respect to TNB, but the chink of light in the statement will apply only to a new owner if they take over by Feb12th.

Look, when it comes down to it, there are a number of people employed by CCFC who have been screwed around for a long time. The best outcome for all of them is that a takeover goes through and they keep their jobs [jobs which most of them are excellent at, despite the goon overseeing the whole thing]. If Quintas come in next week and buy the club, it's not so smple as, well Tom didn't have his house in order so you can#'t have a licence, I'm not sure Coughlan has the slightest interest in qualifying for the licence since he has an eye on a buy-out.

I would hope that most fans would have great sympathy with employees (including players) that were messed around by TC but at some stage rules have to apply and the rest of the league move on. It is not acceptable to further delay the whole League for the sake of one club that may or may not "make it" in 1/2 weeks time. Don't get me wrong I want to see a Cork team in senior football but don't think it is practical this coming season.

Take a season out, sort out the problems and come back in 2011.

No offence, but I don't think it is practical either. If they disappear for a year, would there not be a danger of them losing support that would never come back?

Does in not say that if financial information was not submitted/in order by Friday 29th Jan that there would be penalties? I think the press release just outlines what the penalty is for missing the deadline and implies that there's one last chance to get things submitted by granting a deadline before the licensing committee meet. That's what the precedence seems to suggest anyway.

Really hope so. my post concerned the TC set up only - it is time to bring an end to THAT Cork City. Hope FORAS are in a position to set up for the coming season.
