If this thread has been done in the past, i cant find it, but if it has, dumpo it.
Im just listening to "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush. What a song.
Any other classic one hit wonders out there, apart from the really obvious like the Clash etc.

Stiltskin - Inside (from an old Levis ad)
Deep Blue Something - Breakfast at Tiffanys
The Rembrandts - I'll be there for you (Friends theme)
Dee-Lite - Groove is in the heart (one of the bst pop songs ever)
New Radicals - You get what you give (although Glen whatshisname has writtena few hits for others)
Six - there's a whole lotta lovin'
You'll soon be adding Gary Jules - Mad World to the list, the album is terrible
boo radleys/wake up boo
emf/unbelievable
the farm/altogether now
mock turtles/can you dig it(great song)

joe dolce/shut upa yer face
renee & renato/save your love my darling save your love
clive dunne/grand dad (we love you)
telly salvalas/if (david gates song)

The Boo Radley's were around for years before that, and we a reasonably successful indie band before and after that song.... That song ruined them, in that they never produced such a poppy song again to get the airplay needed for a number one...Quote:

Suppose it depends how you classify one hit wonders - alot of the bands you listed 12th Man only had one big crossover hit, but were around for years in their genre.
btw Conor, The Farm also had a hit with a cover of "Don't You Want Me"
cant say i remember the other emf one at all.i do remember the farm one but cant remember it being a top ten hit.(thought it was just on their album) it was indeed a grueller.Quote:

yeah macy im aware of that as i am/was a fan of the bands myself but as far as the general public are concerned they would be seen as one hit wonders.
the record /cd buyers are not interested in backrounds of the bands etc they just see a hit as a hit
.take" echo and the bunnymen" for instance/ brilliant band with about 20 albums.
ask people to name a song by them and they would probably say "killing moon"(a hit single) and not have a breeze about the previous 10 albums the band released.
The Charlatans suffered that fate too, with "The only one I know"...Quote:

There's plenty of Indie bands that have had one crossover - and for a lot of that I blame Chris Evans....
de bagre, played it the other night....the 80's was just full of one hit wonders, i'll put my thinking hat on and come up with a few more.....love James...laid is one of my favourite albums...
how about eagle eyed cherry......saved tonight, at slane no one listened to him.he played that song and the crowd went wild and as some as it was over no one noticed he was even on the stage...
jermaine jackson...we don't have to take our clothes off
steelers wheel......stcuk in the middle ( jerry rafferty did have solo hits)
The Charlatans have had a number of top ten hits over the years
you would probably struggle for a better example of the harsh world of the "hit single" scene that the band above.bear in mindQuote:
