Billy’s magical Monaghan memories

Monaghan United and Saint Patrick’s Athletic have always had close links and the most integral of these bonds came in the form of legendary Monaghan manager Billy Bagster.
Glory days
Bagster is of course a legendary figure in Monaghan United history, leading them to promotion to the League of Ireland Premier Division for the first time in 1993, the fourth highest points tally in the division in their debut Premier Division season in 1994 and to two FAI Cup quarter-finals. All was achieved on a relatively limited budget and with a team of what Bagster termed “ageing juveniles” such as Mick Byrne, Declan Geoghegan and John Coady, which became known as the “blue rinse brigade”.
