Not much interested in the Premiership except the weekend before internationals to see who's been injured, but reading today's rags, Leeds United are effectively bankrupt and could be facing oblivion. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Leeds Utd the second team from this city to have gone bust? Didn't Leeds City also go to the wall circa WW1?

Here we are in a city where an unbelieveably long string of teams has gone to the wall, including some of Irelands greatest ever teams.
Never thought of that. What's the last count? Transport (was that the Ford work's team or was that Fordsons??), Celtic, Hibernians, Alberts, and United.
I remember in the seventies I had this sticker album (just the top so you read the info underneath the paper) around 1975/76 and at the back it had various teams from around Europe including Cork Celtic and Cork Hibernian (Northern posters might remember it as also having Ards and I think Crues). Other teams were a Polish team in green. Thought I had it up in the attic of my parents place but looks like it just got thrown away. It wasn't panini but a British company. One of the Cork teams was in yellow shirts.

Any reason why they named the team "Alberts", "Hibs", "Celtic", "United" and "Athletic" before going for the much more obvious and community-embracing "City"?

I thought when a club folds it can't take the same name again,hence all the different names in Cork's history.
Anybody here remember watching Celtic or Hibs? My wife's uncle remembers most of the imports being out on the p*ss most of the time. Think Best played a couple of games.:rolleyes:

times at milltown(me being an old rovers supporter) .
i remember "joe o grady" being a hard man to get the ball past (goalkeeper),hilliary carlise was another name.if i think about it ill remember more.
the hibs fans used to sing "hey hey the hibs are here where the f**K are" whoever they were playing .they were great days,the crowds were fantastic and the atmosphere was electric. :D
hmmm, I remember Joe O'Grady the goal keeper playing against Drums and Shels in Tolka, when I was a kid. Big Bulky keeper.
I also had to pleasure to meet his daughter years later. She was a six-foot blonde, a complete stunner. Often wondered what happened to her
i remember also john herrick,i think he was a defender,a small tough guy.and i think cork celtic had bobby tambling (ex chelsea)playing with them for a while.
Was at the Shels v Cork Hibs cup final in 73 I think.
Shels had Paddy Roche, who went to Man U, Ray O'Brien, Derby and Notts County, Ben Hannigan in midfield, and Irish rugby international Paul McNaughton playing up front. However they got beat in a reply down in Cork the following week in front of about 15,000. Great days
Fiorentina had to change their name and start again in like serie d and but their chairman used club money to prop up his business whereas leeds managed to blow it all under their own steam.
Although we don't have "Cork" at the beginning we are effectivly a Cork team thus giving Cork 2 teams in EL
