Apologies for caps but firefox seems to have done something;)
anyway every time i click on a link it opens in a new tab and if i use the scroller wheel on my mouse it works just like the back button in the top left (same with forward)> anybody able to help me?

You seem to have Shift Lock on, judging by your post?
I try just mashing the keyboard a couple of times (seriously). Not the most scientific, but there you go.
I think Shift Lock can be turned off by pressing the Shift key five times in succession.
