Ya heard it, decent enough although i thought Earley's (spelling?) analysis of the Italy game was a bit harsh. IMO that was a best performance in a long time, yes the tactics may have been long ball at times but we realistically couldve won that game.
Sorry to crash your thread, but seeing as we're on the media, wanna get others opinions on something that has annoyed me with a good while: Has anyone else noticed that on rtes coverage of football, the sunday game or whatever upcoming gaa game will be advertised but if you watch the gaa programme very very very rarely do they advertise football. Im not imaging this, its something i look out for. I follow both sports but have a strong preference for football, but this really bugs me.
The Irish media's attuitude to Irish football is shocking - at least that's how I perceive it primarily as a fan of the national team. There are many times when I need reminding that Ireland is actually a sovereign republic and not just another region of the UK, like the North East, with its own unique characteristics but ultimately part of the same society. The RTE homepage and the sports pages of the Irish papers (outside the GAA Championship season) is when I feel this most acutely.
It has probably been covered loads on these pages, but on that note, which of the irish publications are consistently the best for irish football. i find the mirror and the star the best for LOI and i prefer the Examiner for the international game. McDonnell for the indo (is he indo) is good too.
by the way just to stay on topic, off the ball is a decent radio show. really enjoyable even with the smugness etc. is there any night that the loi is on it? i get the podcasts every day for working nights but can't find one for domestic soccer.
I know Ken Early from the When Saturday Comes site, he happily admits to little interest in LoI. He does have an encyclopaedic knowledge of Liverpool's fringe players over the years and claims to have no interest in rugby, to be fair.
"Irish" rags like the Herald etc. are much more likely to cover Man U, Beckham, Ronaldo etc. than any LOI news or GAA for that matter. The radio is even worse.
I do like Off The Ball but agree that the focus is WAY to much UK based, now when they spend a half hour on "THE Ashes" that really gets me...no, I don't listen for the half hour!
Interview the Roddy tonight about his move to malta.
