Class. So clubs not even involved in this competition could end up having to move fixtures to midweek, costing them money through smaller gates.

This competition should have been kept in midweek, and for that matter changed to a two legged knockout format instead of these stupid 3 team groups.

Bohs H, Cork A and Pat's A are the fixtures affecting us...only loss in crowd numbers is the Bohs game so not too bad*.

*I know there's more next season.

Still two groups of four this season, is it not? I agree though, three team groups are an abomination, especially if you end up with another LoI team.

It means less games for those involved (from 6 to 4) and with 6 "match days" available, some leeway is there

Impact on 65% Salary Protocol

I presume that revenue from the inital 4 matches only (to the end of November) will qualify in assessing adherance to the 65% Salary Protocol, and that subsequent gates income and prize money will be irrelevant to 2009 season?

If so, would participating clubs have been fully aware of this when preparing their budgets?

Similarly, the reduced revenue through less games?

The 3 groups of 3 was announced before last season's final so all teams would have known.

Madness !

Given that the 2009 Setanta won't finish until mid-2010, if the tournament continues after then it will be difficult to not effectively skip a year at some point.

For example - if the Setanta that follows the next one similarly starts in 2010 and ends mid-2011, which team performances will be used to qualify for it from the Irish League ? The 2009/10 winners, or the 2010/11 winners ?

Then there's the big question over whether Setanta will still even exist as a business come May 2010.

Let's face it, There won't be a Setanta Cup or indeed a Setanta TV station in a few months. They lost the SPL today.

its a pity as their coverage of both setanta cup and league of ireland was way better than rtes. thats not good news considering the rumours about setanta ireland being profitable and wouldnt be touched at all.:( will miss if they go.

what is with north south competitions that they never last so long :o

I wouldn't go cancelling anything just yet. Setanta Ireland is a separate company as already said, and on The Last Word tonight (only half heard it mind), there seemed to be some talk that there was a chance they might yet hold on to some of that football over here. Worth waiting to see anyway?
