Byrne faces management opposition

Shelbourne striker Jason Byrne, who took the league’s top scorer accolade for the first time in his career in the season just ended, is the only player nominated for the eircom/Soccer Writers Association of Ireland Personality of the Year.

Byrne joined Shels for a reputed Eur35,000 from Bray Wanderers last February, and went on to become the league’s top scorer in his first season at Tolka Park, netting 21 league goals to wrest the title off three-in-a-row winner, Bohemians’ Irish international forward Glen Crowe.
