There was an interesting article in the Sunday Times last week. It said that the average viewing figures for League of Ireland matches was 123,000. But when matches were shown midweek they received the best figures compared with Fridays.
The administrators should set up the fixtures in conjunction with the TV companies and Euro fixtures in mind for nest year.
In Summer there is a lack of soccer on TV. So they should set it up that the top matches would have no competition.
Monday nights probably be a good option for irish tv.
123k ain't bad viewing figures considering the general lack of promotion of eL tv matches...
We'd want to be getting 200k before people sit up and take notice. That could be done if it was done right. It is the "doing it right" that is the hard bit .... but yeah .... i reckon make it as easy as possible for TV companies to show games.
Monday-Thursday are acceptable because they wouldn't clash with other LOI games and therefore those that attend LOI games would help bulk up the numbers.
it'll be that bit trickier to implement next season because coverage of Euro2004 will probably reach sturation point and turn the barstoolers off watching the LOI.

Ignoring what one might think of Dunphy, he had a show getting some of the highest figures that station has achieved, sponsorship to the tune of €500,000 and they drop it after 3 months.
The eL can't afford to take a chance on them ever putting money and effort into building an audience, so RTE or TG4 are the only realistic options for the eL.
Does anyone ever watch BBC1 on Saturdays?
They have coverage and highlights of the Irish league. At least two cameras at games, interviews and news. That little bit is infinitely superior to TV3. IT can be done properly wth a little bit of effort, so why not give it to someone who is willing? Remember RTE did the soccer show with the involvement of the FAI, couldn't the eL do the same?
