Who actually own their own ground?

the Greyhounds own the Brandywell.
the MFC own Turners Cross.
the FAI own United Park.
the Corporation own Tolka.
someone other than WUFC own the RSC.
SPA don't 100% own Richmond yet.
Rovers don't have a ground yet.
Dublin City are to rent a crowded Tolka...

Bohs and Longford own theirs... two clubs... that's embarrassing

more clubs have their own grounds in the first division... It's all a bit silly... we need to grow up a bit... less of the slating clubs with poor grounds... remember Rico giving stink about Mons some years ago as Shamrocks manager...

How much have individual clubs spend on devolping their rented stadiums and what are the terms of these clubs leases....

Shels - No Council owned - where did the myth that the Donnelly's owned it comefrom)
Cork - MFA
Dwogs - FAI
Waterford - Council
Pats - most of it
Rovers - Well, own land anyway
UCD - OPW/ The College - not the club anyway
Derry - Council

Dublin City - no ground of their own
Bray - Council
Harps - Yes, but to be council I think
Limerick - no ground of their own
Athlone - Yes, but again moving to council land?
Galway - Local leagues
Kilkenny - yes, AFAIK
Kildare - Newbridge Town
Mons - yes, AFAIK
Cobh - yes, AFAIK
Dundalk - yes
Sligo - not sure, council again?

I don't see what the big deal is.

Do a similar survey of ther Nationwide leagues in england or any country on the continent & would be surprised if the local councils not own the majority of grounds. I'm sure most US stadia are local council owned too.

Depends on the terms.... Don't Derry's problems come from the fact that they don't have that strong a lease? Ditto Waterford's sham of a ground. Never mind, Drogs and Shels are going to sell grounds they don't own to finance new ones!?!?!?!

Also if clubs do out grow their grounds, they're stuck. If Cork really were getting sell outs every game, they're fooked. You can't sell the ground to finance a new one, as you couldn't fit in much more in the Cross (realistically, you wouldn't get planning for much more!)

We dont have a lease, and our council has neglected the Brandywell for years.....our main aim in SOS is to pressure the council to give us a long term lease so we can generate funding ourselves (the club that is).

The council have now acted in regards hiring a group of accountants to carry out an appraisal of options which includes a new 20,000 seater staduim on a new site which would cater for not only Derry City but numerous other groups etc.
One problem will take around 7 years which is too long for us....our aim is still long term lease of the Brandywell....!!

Former Uefa big wig Des Casey and his family are the owners of Oriel Park grounds. Dundalk have a 99 year lease last time I heard.

Sligo own their own ground something around 21 acres I thinks. Great devolpment prospects if we can raise the funds to these things.All weather pich on the way

Its only 12 acres but that�s probably more then any other EL club also under the terms of the purchase it can never be mortgaged, sold or used for any commercial purposes other than sport and leisure something other EL clubs should think about.

Drums were granted a 100 year lease in 1963. When Home Farm bought them out it passed to them and when the Donnelly''s bout Tolka off Home Farm in 1989 it passed to them.

In short they own the lease (with a clause in old man Donnelly's will that it can only be sold to Ollie) but the corpo own the land.

Wasn't sure, hence the question mark...... We own a similar amount of land around flancare - have the all weather pitches going, and the back pitch is under progress.....

Sounds like a good idea on the terms of purchase, but I'd have my doubts whether they can be properly enforced. We're a members club anyway, so chances of a Kilcoyne style incident are slim....

AFAIK some Canadian owns Turners Cross. The FAI leased it long term and the MFA bought the lease of them. The FAI put in the express clause that City must be allowed play there.

If ya really want to get technicial nobody actually owns land in Ireland except the State and some Anglo-Saxons absentee land lords decendents. Most people only have land on 9,999 year leases.

milan, inter, roma, lazio, juventus(most italian clubs actually) along with the lies of PSG and most Continental clubs do not own their own stadia.

Its a stupid arguement and does not have a bearing on who is bigger than who, which is the context it is usually brought up
