is it me or is anyone else purely embarassed by the "chant"... read a report about Beyonce's (hmmm Beyonce) concert in Dublin, and suddenly the crowd burst into the dreaded chant much to the surprise of the goddess.... WHY? WHY? WHY? Ireland werent playing, that chant died out ages ago, its even got nothing to do with Ireland!!! Also i remember a few years ago, when Ireland retained the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, the crowd rose up and sang the dreaded chant. Squriming with embarassment....

Rant over, but does anyone agree????? :mad:

it is ****e, but then again 'c'mon you boys in green' is not much better, its sung because we as fans haven't come up with any decent alternatives in the last decade or so.

Give it a chance. At leaast people actually sing it, while Green and White army gets a couple of hundred at most usually.

"Olé Olé Olé" and "Come on you boy in green" are two of the worst chants ever. But what do you expect from [SIZE=1]english premiership[/SIZE] supporters. They should go to some EL games and learn some right football songs.

Dose any one even know whe Ole means?

The El fans at the matches sing the usual 'C'mon you boys in Green','Ole,ole' and 'Ireland,clap,clap,clap Ireland,clap clap clap'.

Beavis is right. About the only (semi-?)original song I've heard sung at the Ireland games is "Roy Keane is a traitor" - everything is just the standard stuff we've been brought up on.

Even the bloody Man Utd fans have a song for O'Shea, while we've sang his name once to the tune of "Olé Olé", Robbie Keane gets the "Keano" chant, and Duffer just gets polite applause.

Can anyone get the words to a few songs about our top players at their clubs and steal/adapt them for our use? If we can get the eL section singing them, they'll catch on.

The Stretford End (Lansdowne Road?) will always sing,
'Cos we all know that Johnny's going to score.....

btw the O'Shea to Ole also came from Old Trafford before the above took over.....

The only Duff one I know is "All you need is Duff"

I'd encourage the El fans to bring some new chants to our games,cos admittedly the usual ones have become a bit hackneyed.

the chants that are knocking around now are really old hat. surely Foot.ie/EL section fans can put our heads together and get an A4 sheet of alternatives together for the next international, we have time to be fair....

'All you need is Duff...." that's class, and easy to remember, should become a standard

I was up in Ewood Park and had to wait 80 minutes for the crowd to get "All you need is Duff" going but it was worth the wait.

The John O'Shea one is crap purely because he doesn't play well for Ireland. He leaves his balls back in his Man Yoo locker when he's on International duty. He doesn't deserve a song.

When it comes to the eircom League fans singing new songs or chants they get drowned out by the Ole Ole brigade. They're stuck in their little rut and don't want to listen when something they don't know is being sung.
It's all well and good having a few hundred eL fans singing but the whole ground must participate if it's to be successful.

Ole Ole is an easy option for most people who expect everything to be done for them when it comes to football. For the most part they think the rest of the crowd are there to entertain them.
