Colin O’Brien Retires

Colin O’Brien, FAI Player Development Officer, retires as a player with Cork City


Cork City’s longest-serving player, Colin O’Brien, today announced his retirement as a player after fourteen seasons in the League of Ireland. O’Brien played his first senior game for Cork in 1995 when he made his debut in the League of Ireland against UCD. He won all of the honours in the game with Cork – eircom League Championship, FAI Ford Cup, Setanta Sports All-Ireland Cup, Munster Senior Cup.

He began his senior career in the League of Ireland as a right-winger and in more recent years he played central midfield. Cork City was his only senior club but he spent periods on loan with Waterford United and Cobh Ramblers. O’Brien has worked with the Football Association of Ireland as a Development Officer for a number of years. He was recently promoted to the position of Player Development Officer.

Legend...simple as. I have never supported the club without Colin O on the squad list, so this will be kinda weird for me. Hope to see him back one day as a City manager. I just have the feeling that he has all the right tools mentally to do the job very well if he so chooses.

Always was one of my favorite players,legend!The goal he scored up in drogs the year we won the league was class,I was locked but I think it was a rocket from the edge of the box.
