I was up in Tallaght on Saturday afternoon (dont worry I had a good long shower on getting back to the Republic that evening) and I observed something really interesting.
Well to be honest, I had been alerted to this a couple of nights before on TV3 when they were doing a report about the (has to be said admirable and interesting) collaboration between Shamrock Rovers and Notre Dame Basketball Club.
There was a clip of the 'stadium' (a work in progress or something to that effect...) and sure it was a beautiful shot to be sure. In the foreground towards the bottom was the awkward looking lonely half-baked stand surrounded by the high class residences of Tallaght while dominating the backround were the rolling green hills full of fields and the odd house.
Which got me wondering.
Why do the Hoops insist on concentrating their banter on our supposed occupations in the farming industry when if ever comes the day that we visit their super stadium :o we will only have to direct our glances slightly to the left and occupy ourselves at halftime with "Count the Cows".
An activity I found wholly rewarding to distact myself the other day from the misfortune of having to spend a day in maggot land.
One up in the propaganda battle. WAYYYYY. Tallaght maggots ooo ooo!
The following day, we scored a follow-up. It was actually an embarrasing own goal for the hoops. From yesterday's Sunday Tribune (and I'm sure to be found elsewhere):
"Cocaine use up fivefold in a year
Cocaine use in South Dublin has increased by more than fivefold within one year. Newly released department of justice figures for the Dublin Metropolitan Area South, covering the Tallaght and Rathfarnam areas [...] indicate that the extent of heroin use remains greater than cocaine in the area, but that cocaine is growing more quickly."
Barry Ryan really went to town on it didnt he?
I LOVE THIS BIT:
""What seemed like a relatively small problem with cocaine use over four or five years ago has now snow-balled :D into a huge problem" (Sinn Fein TD for Dublin South West Sean Crowe)"
So there you go - they're junkies AND farmers while we are absolutely perfect. Happy days.
QED
Oh and we're going to Europe while they've unleashed the back-up plan to avoid us getting a foothold in the Propaganda War -"we didnt want to get into Europe anyway..."
SHUT UP!!
