players accept offer

Players Agreement Reached at last

We are pleased to annouce that a settlement has been agreed with the players in relation to outstanding monies owed to them by Drogheda United FC.

The PFAI has accepted that this offer is in full and final settlement to all players.


There have been a lot of people working behind the scenes who have enabled this agreement to be reached.

We would particularly like to thank Dermot McKenna, Stephen McGuinness and FAI CEO John Delaney for the efforts throughout the negotiation process.

Does this mean there is even a little chance of the Louth derby being renewed this season??

Very doubtfull...they still owe the Revenue alot of money and they are stil in receivership.They will still be lucky to get a 1st Division licence!
Does the Receiver not have to accept the deal for the players too??

If a creditor (e.g. Revenue) goes to the courts it is the judge who ultimately decides what they receive. I presume since the players have made an agreement the judge would not deal with anymore. In theory if the Revenue accepted a similar deal prior to court date judge would sign off on that also.

It's going to come down to the judge as I don't see the Revenue accepting any deal whatsoever that doesn't see them getting at the very least the vast majority of what they're owed. They'd see Drogs go out of business on a point of principle and wouldn't give a flying one for the fans or anybody else. The judge may do as the judge in Cork's case did and approve the deal despite the Revenue's objections but there's as good a chance that he won't and Drogs will go under despite all their efforts.

Excellent knowledge there about what will happen.
Just as an aside we are not in receivership and do not have a receiver. We are now entitled to a licence as all our players wages are paid. If the judge takes us out of examinership its likely we will be in the premier next season.
Do keep up if you are going to offer an opinion.

Much better chance of it after todays events .We still have a long way to go and the revenue is gonna be the big hurdle know .

Can the judge choose to extend the Examinership period at next court date or is it the last chance?

does licensing judge drogs on this years licensing application or do they assess them on any breachs in the 2007 licence.. or both

Their next court date is the end of their 100days isn't it?

If so then the judge will have to decide if they can be viable going forward or wind them up.

Good news, hopefully the club can sort itself out over the next month or so.

Would have been a terrible loss if they had gone to the wall.

50/50 staying in the premier i`d say.

I think January 22 is the 100th and therefore last day.
So on January 23 we'll either be trying to get a team together or buying season tickets for Oriel.

There isn't a hope in hell we'll get a Premier Licence next season if we survive. Utd Park would fail on everything.

First Div is the best we can hope for at this stage, and if we're being honest it's what we deserve for the mess that we've caused.

Also another angle is do we want to be in ther premier - we will have a new team, new team mangement, and importantly new club management (on the assumption we get out of examinership), all these facets need time to come to terms on how to run a club effectively and if we are in the premier they will be fire fighting from the word go. Surely to drop a div or two will only be advantageous in the long run, as it will allow things to settle down and remove some of the pressure fom the new people (whoever they turn out to be).

Personally I think if we sstayed in the premier (by some crazy chance) that it will actually do us more harm than good. In saying all this we do still need to get apst the judge before we really think about these things (obvious statement I know)
