I/m sure our new commentator at the games - Gael 353 - will have a match report rivalling that of John O'Waffle!!!:D
Great first half, but one must wonder about our defense who seemingly went to sleep for the last goal, and John Healy who had what can only be described as a disasterous game, gifting two goals through mistakes so basic you wouldn't see them in schoolboy soccer.
McCarthy's goal was some strike, as was Heffernans. The defence was poor though, i thought the full backs were pushing on needlessly when we were 4-1 up and continued to do so until the end. They offered little cover to the centre halves, which was evident in Athlones 2 second half goals, instead of consolidating their positions and shutting up shop.
They'll learn from that though, they'll need to for Harps next week!
very excited now and harps will be our first real BIG TIME test. It will be a shame that we will lose our star players like o'flynn and purcell if we fail to go up.
The goalkeeper is an absolute nightmare and is a huge worry for us ahead of impending playoffs and he is going to come under severe pressure in Donegal this week. I just pray his lapses don't cost us. He just can't catch anything.
Also the return of Cosgrave will be a boost as when either o'flynn or mccarthy leave the pitch the team just can't function.
It is just a pity that there was nobody there to witness limerick's win and that we will have no travelling support for the big one this friday.
But I think we can get a point in harps
A repeat of the scoreles draw up there earlier this season would do nicely. :ball:
Agreed, but it will be a mammoth task to get it. Still, 9 games unbeaten. No side in the eircom league can boast better form than that. It would also be particularly satisfying to wipe the smug grin off Kingers puss!!:D

I beg to differ, Four of us will be doing a Cannonball Run to Donegal to support the lads Friday night. Gael is driving with Deise, Slk and myself in the back singing.
I don't think the first goal is John's fault Reilly drilled it home past him whereas the second goal was unfortunately. To be fair he did pull off som great saves and to be honest the standard of goalkeeping in the first division isn't great the only exception would be the goalkeeper with Bray as SLK keeps telling me.
I thought Jimmy Fyffe was pretty good 'keeper, but its awhile since i've seen him in action. Has he gone down hill or what?
Jimmy was a fine keeper, very confident, great shot stopper, brilliant kick out, but a little sketchy on the old corners and crosses. Still think he'd be a better alternative than John Healy, but don't know what condition he's returned from Greece, where he spent a lot of time playing Music for the summer. Maybe he's not fit, or maybe Mike just prefers Healy.
Fyffe, by his own admission is nowhere near ready for first team football yet. He's still carrying a little weight and needs to get some hard graft in. I would imagine that it will be next season before he gets his place back (if he sticks around). That said Jimmy Fyffe is a top class keeper when he's fit and willing and I hope he comes good again. The day we won the League Cup (in fact the whole season that year) he was a revelation and presumably he must have showed a lot of potential and ability to be signed by Bray Wanderers as well?
Sure any muppet could get a game with that lot.Quote:
