Dundalk chief executive Gerry Matthews expects the managerial position at Oriel Park to be filled by the end of the week. John Gill, who guided the Lilywhites to promotion from the First Division last month, is out of contract but remains a candidate to land the job ahead of the 2009 campaign.
Former Shamrock Rovers boss Pat Scully, outgoing Cobh Ramblers chief Stephen Henderson and Roddy Collins, who won a League and Cup Double as Bohemians boss in 2001, are others to have been linked with the Oriel Park hotseat. Matthews told Dundalk’s official website: “We have received a lot of excellent applications for the position and have spent the week narrowing down a shortlist. We will hold second interviews early [this] week with the aim of entering final negotiations on Wednesday.
