Fairview Rangers kicked out of FAI Cup

6 time winners of the fai cup, fairview have been kicked out of the fai cup for failing to play a fixture against geraldines. Apparently 'GOD' Finnan personally decided for the ref that the pitch in the garryowen green was too short, and decided to call the match off. What finnan didn't count on was the ref having a pair of balls and a mind of his own, saying the pitch was fine, and signing the match card, which geraldines had filled out. Fairview refused to fill out the card, the referee submitted it to the FAI, ergo...walkover.
The case was heard in Dublin, Limerick and finally decided at a meeting in PortLaoise last night.
On a personal note I am:
1). Delighted for junior football because the dictator that is Finnan thought that just because they're top dog they can do what they want.
2). All of the smug ba**ards up in the fairgreen that have castigated, sneered and slagged us off over the years have huge amounts of egg on their faces.

Very strong words Joe Soap. I don't know who you are but what i do know is that you are talking utter ****e. You call yourself a Limerick football supporter and here you are, delighted because the View have been thrown out of the FAI. It must have slipped your mind that the View have released more of their players to Limerick FC than any other limerick club in the last few years. I myself am a Fairview supporter and also a Limerick FC supporter and i am delighted how Limerick are doing this season. Where is the bitterness coming from pal? Are you jealous of the Views success over the last few years. If Limerick FC was run any way like the View Limerick would be in the premier. Don't you agree. The View is currently the most respected club in limerick all because it is run properly by clever blokes unlike the ****in clowns that run LFC. Finally just to let you know, you've got your whole story messed up. This is what happened and believe me i know. Geraldines were supposed to play the View on one of the pitches in the garryowen green but said that it was unplayable because the pitch was too sandy (have they seen the ****in pike field lately - what a ****-hole). Anyway they moved the game to the central pitch in the green. In an FAI cup game the pitch has to be enclosed so they needed top put a rope around the pitch. however on one side of the pitch there is a path and to accommodate the rope the had to narrow the pitch on that side by four yards, but the knobs left the other side of the pitch the same. So on walking the pitch finnan realized that one side was four yards shorter than the other so he questioned the ref. The ref gave finnan the choice of calling it off or playing under dispute, so finnan said ****it lets call it off. Fair enough he should have played it but he was given the choice. Then the ref made his report and after talking to other officials he realized that he had no right to give finnan that choice so he panicked, the tool. So in his report he said that fairview refused to play and that was that. What a ****er. And I know that every word of that is true. Fairview got screwed not because the ref had balls, to which you refer, but because he had no balls and was a total scumbag. Anyway just thought i'd let u know and hopefully next time you'll get your facts right before slagging off the View.

I don't begrudge Fairview their success at all. Fair play to them. I think though that there is a lingering animosity between the junior clubs and the senior club (perhaps less so with Fairview - I can't comment). What particularly gets my goat up though is the comments I hear many times (mostly from people who haven't seen Limerick play and who are presumably Fairview supporters) that Fairview 'are better than Limerick' or would 'beat Limerick'. (By the way I am not saying that you have that view or said it). That really gets my goat up because it is such a load of sh ite. There is no junior side that would beat Limerick - or even the pick of the junior wouldn't beat them.

Fairview have done great stuff in the Junior Cup and long may they do well in it, but it is still the junior cup and most intermediate and all senior sides would beat them on most days. I am aware of their victory of Dublin City - though that was a flash in the pan.

As for 'releasing' players to Limerick... Well, players can play for whoever they want to play for - they shouldn't stand in the way of a player who wants to go up a level if he is able. And I am trying to think of who they have 'released'. Colm Heffernan is one. Barry Ryan? He wasn't wanted. They 'released' Ross Cosgrave to Waterford.

Maybe as well you can explain what happened with the Lawson Cup semi-final between Pike and Fairview which went ahead the night that Limerick needed a big crowd for a home game just after Michael O'Sullivan retired. Is it true that Fairview refused to postpone it, because as far as I know Pike were amenable to rearranging it? Maybe they weren't asked to - but they knew the situation we were in. I spoke to quite a few Fairview 'supporters' at the Limerick game that night who were raging with the View for playing the Lawson Cup that night which took at least 500 off the gate that Limerick could have got.

This is not a dig at the View - I really do wish them well. But some balance is needed.

I totally stand over my comments and remarks about Fairview, and my opinions haven't changed. I accept the bit about the rope around the pitch, but would question the refs 'offer' to allow Fairview to play it or call it off. Fairview have practically run the junior council for the past few years, particularly when it comes to having fixtures cancelled or re-arranged to suit them. This is a prime example of arrogance, thinking that they'd never be kicked out of 'their' own competition. Fairview have never 'released' players to Limerick...as LFCIE rightly pointed out, players are allowed to make up their own minds, and move where ever they want.
MyView pointed out that Fairview are the most respected club in Limerick...who's talking ****e now?? Ask the majority of junior clubs what they think of Fairview, and you won't get too many kind responses. I have every admiration for Fairviews abilitites and successes ON the pitch, but sadly off it, I think they are a smug, arrogant, condescending bunch, who stick together like glue because nobody else would give them the time of day.
p.s Dermot Finnan stood on the line against Summerville on Sunday, and no Fairview men went out of their way to speak to him, rather spent their time talking to Jason Purcell ,who is such a staunch 'View man that he won't tog out for Finnan ever again. Prime actions of a well run, organised club...

I remember the game between Fairview and Pike. I was at the Limerick game myself. I talked to a few of the fairview players after and said that it was a disgrace that these two games were on at the same time. We all know the crowds that attend the big pike view clashes are big and we could have done with those extra supporters. The view players were of the same opinion and a lot of them would have gone to the limerick match, but they said that Fairview were never approached by limerick. I'd would'nt be surprized if the committee (LFC) at the time did'nt even bother to check the junior fixture listing. Of course Pike are going to accuse fairview of not wanting the fixtute postponed. Remember the piece that was in the star on LFC. It said that pike were the only ones helping out Limerick and that fairview had even made life difficult for limerick by declining to postpone a match on the day of the cup match. This piece was pinned up on the pike notice board (ask derek white if you don't believe me). Thats were that rumour started. Not surprizing considering the bitterness between the two clubs. Fairview never refused because those idiots (committee) never asked.

That was my initial reaction - i.e. they weren't asked. But in fairness the plight of Limerick was all over the media. They knew Limerick had a game. They knew it clashed. Pike and Fairview should have decided to call off their game. Did they really need to be asked? And I am referring to both clubs because I certainly don't know who was willing and who wasn't willing to postpone. It would have been a fine gesture by both clubs and the LDMC. But they are thin on the ground in Limerick soccer.

Isn't it a sorry state of affairs when junior clubs game are blamed for LFC failing to get a decent crowd, the chances are that 90% of the crowd would not have bothered to see LFC even if the Pike/Fview was switched, because they don't turn up at any LFC home games any way. The plain and simply truth is the majority of people don't give a s--t about LFC full stop and that's the awful pity of it all.

Cop on to yourself man. Who is blaming the junior clubs for Limerick's gates. Limerick got a bigger gate for that game than any other because an appeal for support had gone out - it was the first home game after Michael O'Sullivan resigned. There were people at that game that had not been to see Limerick in the Pike beforehand. There are a lot of people who went to the Lawson Cup game who would have gone to the Limerick match. Obviously they care more about junior than senior soccer and that is their entitlement. I am talking about that one game - that is all. And to say that 90% wouldn't have bothered is nonsense.

A majority of people don't give a sh it and that is a pity, but don't start putting words into peoples' mouths. :ball:

According to the Herald last night the View are back in and their game with Geraldines will go ahead. They got a sizeable enough fine though (it will need to be a good Christmas in the club house :) )
