Player Comparison: Brian Deane - Les Ferdinand/Suggestions

I thought that this could be something we could do for similar players, preferably from the same era who played in the same position. This could be the first of the series and a poll could be added. Basically who do you reckon was a better player?

Both players provided a quite a physical presence, although Ferdinand was not particularly tall he had perhaps the greatest leap of his generation.
Brian Deane scored the Premierships first goal, Les Ferdinand scored the 10,000th.

How is this a comparison???

Ferdinand by a million country miles.

Have to agree, Deane was average. Ferdinand was probably a better finsher than he was given credit for.

I wanted to find 2 players of comparable styles, and these two were the first lads that came to mind. I agree that Ferdinand was better, Deane wasn't terrible though, he did win 3 caps for England and score over a hundred league goals.

There will be more even ones, but it's fairly tough to find players who you'd consider like for like. I was going to go with Bergkamp and Zola classing them as supporting and deep lying forwards... next time I suppose ;)
I was also thinking Steve Staunton and Steve Finnan, although Finnan's not retired yet so that might not belong in football history.

P.S. Should I make a request in the help forums for polls to be added to future? there doesn't appear to be a moderator for this particular forum.

Ferdinand for me too.. A Steve Bruce - Gary Pallister one would be good. Would like to see how their stats measure up against each other.

Les by a mile. I'd like to see Keane-Viera..

Ferdinand by a long chalk - don't forget that he had a big season with Besiktas and was one of the faces of Top Man for a spell.

Brian Deane, despite a good, albeit short, stay with Benfica, by contrast is responsible for this, and other, crimes against hair.
