Right, hopefully you've got the old "Sports Stadium" theme and anthemic Europe hair-metal masterpiece running around in your head after reading the title and I can move on with this blog entry. The final countdown of course refers to the eagerly anticipated new UCFL season (well I'm excited at least) which kicks of this Saturday.

Pre-season has gone pretty well from a personal perspective, it couldn't have been worse than last year when I broke down in the second week and didn't make it back until our third game, I've played in all the friendlies and despite not making it to the level of fitness I'd really like it's still a million times better than any stage last year.

It's almost that time of year again. Pre-season is just around the corner, the injuries have healed, the mental scars have been mended and the enthusiasm is coming back. With the first team promoted to the Premier Division and playing some of the best football in the UCFL pre-season is bound to be demanding. ...

This amazing development comes in the midst of accusations of corruption and misappropriation of funds at the highest level of world football’s governing body. It is understood that the UN Security Council are keen to bring about regime change at the organisation which has been ruled with an iron fist by Swiss overlord Sepp Blatter since 1998.

FIFA has been at the centre of major scandal recently with the awarding of the 2018 World Cup to Roman Abramovich’s Russian bid™ and the 2022 World Cup to the oil-rich state of Qatar shrouded in bribery allegations. Speaking from his golden throne in Zurich, Blatter denied all of these as unfounded rumours although it was difficult to hear him over the rattling of jewellery and giggling of high-class escorts. It's a brand spanking New Year and it promises to be jam-packed with football all the right way through. The 2011 League of Ireland Season is not far off now and on the 26th March 2011 Ireland are also due to play Macedonia in the Aviva in a European Championship Qualifying Fixture. Here on www.foot.ie we are going to take part in the build up to this season too and that’s why we are running an 'Advert Making' competition that's open to foot.ie members to enter, to get the ball moving as it were.

Members who enter the competition would need to make a video clip from scratch that could possibly be used to either promote your club, declare your love for the national team, a fly-on-the-wall insight into the production of your fanzine, a day in the life of a short-sighted colour-blind referee, a video blog for the women's World U-17 Championships Campaign or even a hair-raising eye-popping wake-up call to everyone to highlight the dangers of Robbie Keane's cartwheels. To be honest this will be more of an exercise in fun and possibility rather than an exercise in skill or something to be used commercially. Obviously it would be great if it’s a well made clip but bare in mind it is only for some fun.
