Not sure why Gibson has been excluded, had a decent enough pre-season for Man U with a great goal against Peterborough, and scored the equaliser from the spot for United reserves v Chelsea at the weekend. Has also made the bench for the first two senior games this season.

Givens has already said that he is only selecting players that are eligible again next year. So anyone born before 1988 wasn't considered although technically available. In fact players born in 1986 are still eligible. However I agree with Givens selection policy.
Notable absentees are:
Anthony Stokes (Givens won't select him again I guess)
John Joe O'Toole

i think that its rediculous that lads who are eligible to play for the irish under 21 team are deemed surplus to requirements.when else are a lot of these lads going to get an opportunity to represent their country and try to impress?

There are only two games left in the qualification with nothing to play for, its more beneficial to blood some young players. The other lads have had their time.

Are these games going to be on Sky? They showed some of earlier games, as we are in the same group as England. It will be nice to see if we have progressed a bit... Portugal looked great when they played us here.

Givens has played the 4-3-3/4-5-1 system the last year or so now. I know he's not getting the results but I like that kind of system and happy to see a bit of variation at that level.
--- Gleeson --- Garvan --- McCarthy ---
Scannell ------ Sheridan ------ Treacy
That's not bad at all with all players available.

Did all these guys play this evening? If so what is going wrong as they are useful footballers. It’s got to be down to the management.

Sheridan pulled out of the squad through injury, McCarthy can only play in the 2nd game, Gleeson was on the bench but will probably play the next game. Centre half Spillane will also join up with the squad for the 2nd game.
Anyway, that's currently an U19 lineup. They're just getting ready for the next campaign.

Does the position you finish in the group affect your future qualifying groups?
if so they should play the strongest team.

We have all said it countless times but I have to say it again, Don Givens record is appalling.
This attitude that results don't matter is like something out of comedy sketch.
Any self respecting manager hates getting beat.
