Longford and Galway progress

Longford 3-1 Waterford Sligo Rovers 1-2 Galway
Longford Town and Galway United joined St Patrick’s Athletic in the FAI Cup semi-finals on Saturday night, as both sides enjoyed quarter-final victories.

Sean Francis netted twice as Longford beat Waterford 3-1 at Flancare Park. The Midlanders lost to St Pat’s in the League Cup final recently, and will be anxious to go all the way in this competition.

They took the lead after only two minutes, when Francis pounced to punish Dan Connor. Waterford equalised shortly after half-time with a 25-yard effort by Neale Fenn.

Longford were back in front though when Brian McGovern headed to the Waterford net and Francis completed the scoring in the final ten minutes.

Meanwhile, nine-man Sligo Rovers almost staged a dramatic comeback against visiting Galway United. Goals by Alan Murphy and Kieran Foley put Galway 2-0 up, while Ollie Keogh and Ian Rossiter were both red carded for Sligo.

However, a 90th minute goal by Ramuel Miller closed the gap to the minimum and then Steve Feeney had a glorious chance to equalise, but blazed his effort over the bar.
