Dundalk Vs Waterford - 4:24 in.

If it had of been 1-1 and he made that decision they would have been a full blown riot.

That is a bizarre decision, clearly in the box, cast iron penalty, but the ref should have played on, and let the goal stand anyway.

Jesus thats shocking. You wouldnt mind if it close to the edge of the box but its half way into the box and he gives a free-kick. And then he doesnt give advantage for the goal. I thought maybe it was offside when he stopped play when I saw it first but that was a strange decision alright.

Yeah looks like a peno, but refs are a different breed.
Dundalk look like they play nice football, do they play like this for most games?

Disgraceful it even looks like he looks over to the lino for help, why I'e no idea and still give it outside.

Only for i saw this i couldn't have belived it !! Time for the FAI to start clamping down on these tossers that are in charge of first division games and getting away with sub standard perfomances as with no TV coverage they know it won't be highlighted on a national stage.

That's a truly horrendous decision.
Whatever about not playing advantage, it was clearly a foul in the box. It was clear as day.

can play on the deck but tend to hoof when under pressure.
Standing opposite side to that and it was clear cut that was inside the box, advantage could have been played but ref blew whistle before ball was in the net, linesman was at fault imo as looked as if he indicated that it was outside the box (shake of the head when ref looked over)

And therefore the son of Alan Kelly Snr, who is the head of the Referees. Nepotism at it's finest i see but it's hardly unusual with the FAI i mean just look at John Delaney.

I was at the game but watched it from the other side, i thought at the time from my view it was a 50/50 call, but from this it couldnt have been clearer, he should have given a peno or let the goal to stand, simple as that. Shocking call by the ref and linesman.

Im surprised he didnt give a penalty especially as the team was wearing blue. He has reffed 3 games this year in limerick and seemed to have his hand welded to the pen spot. At one stage we had played 14 games this season and had 17 pens in our games. In the first div the reffs are allowed get away with murder

Terrible decision but hardly surprising. The current crop of LOI referees are an absolute disgrace and are turning people off going to games. The FAI will continue to bury their heads in the sand, but something has to be done to improve the standard. Do they even have their vision tested?

Good god I didn't realise it was that clear cut. Even the Waterford players couldn't believe it. He and his linesman should never officiate again, absolutely disgraceful!

[the referees] are turning people off going to games.

Any evidence to back this up? I've never had anybody say to me that the reason they didn't watch LOI was the quality of refereeing.

The only one I've seen that even comes close is the Bray player's handball on the line against Drogheda earlier this season that wasn't seen by the ref.

It wasn't even a foul, but given that he had given it as one, the worst thing about it was that Kelly brought it back to outside the box WHILE Luke Fitz was still sitting on the ground in the box where he'd made the challenge. I mean the spot was pretty well marked.
It's just a bizarre decision, and deserves to be highlighted.

Agreed. It's not uncommon at all for an attacking player to get clattered after he gets his shot away, and it is never given as a foul. But as you say, the defender is just sitting there, where he made the tackle, well inside the area. Poor form to make that decision and not know where it had taken place.

Shocking decision, surely some sanctions must come the way of the ref & linesman.

I was at the game on Thursday night and right then as I am now, certain that goal should have stood. No 2 ways about it.

That was bad alright.....Any vids of it? I vaguely remember it from Eircom League Weekly.

but thats the worst decision Ive seen in any sport....
by the way, the Waterford player who made the tackle was on a yellow card, so surely he should have been sent off as well?

stann
26/08/2008, 10:05 PM
Are you not satisfied with us losing?! :D

A second yellow wouldn't have been automatic though. The ref could have been well justified in his own mind giving a free without a yellow card, so you're just clouding the issue there. The main issues are that 1. either it was no foul, or advantage should have been played, so the goal should have stood (or was Marney offside in that case? :p ) and 2. given that the ref decided it was a foul, it was a stonewall penalty and that bizarrely both ref and linesman, who were well sighted, gave it as outside the box, yards away from the site of the tackle, which was still clearly marked by the two lads lying where they fell. Amazing.

You can clearly see from the tape though that Luke Fitz expected to be sent off. :D

Three of the worst decisions I remember in the el involved Bray.

Devlin's goal for Bohs against Bray. He volleyed the ball past Skippy in the goal. It hit the back of the net and then smacked the wall behind it and bounced back out. The ref somehow (I'm guessing from his position) thought the volley had gone wide and awarded a goal kick.

UCD's non-peno against Bray. UCD player hauled down by Pip in the Bray box in the last of a cup match a few years ago. Ref somehow finds a reason to give us a free out.

Drogs goal/peno that wasn't and Foran's save for Bray. Only this season, Foran, our centre-back, slapped the ball as he stood on the line. He was the last man and he denied a certain goal. Furthermore, some people said he was standing behind the line. Ref just assumed he'd headed it.

We are lucky.

1.28 in has to be a bad decision in favour of Dundalk.

Also in a game played the year after in Oriel Derry scored a goal and it went through the net and the ref called for a goal kick.

Refs havn't just become crap recently.........they were always crap!
