The day of the big match is getting closer and I am wetting myself with excitement and anticipation.....actually no, it's not excitement I wet myself this time.

Ciaran is out (Ankle) and 'Pizza' has to undergo a fitness test. It's unstated what pyschological measurement or theory is being used to evaluate him.

That's a Derry City FC and UCD AFC player selling him and about to go past the flatfooted nordie. Right?
Who are the two players and where is the game?*

I think its the tree-trunk legs of Pat 'Podge' McWalter and the stomach of Peter Hutton.

*I don't know the correct answer and some foot.ie posters may have inside information their welcome to share.

What's the verdict on the game? Text updates I was getting were positive, even though we lost. Bray and Harps are much bigger games than Derry, so if we're improving, can we dare to expect four points from these two?

Derry dictated the pace from the beginning, like some of their matches at the Brandywell. They created alot of chances, three in quick succesion in the first half. We had a great chance before half-time but put it over the bar. Mark Farren slipped his marker and sidefooted a goalfrom 3 yards on 55 minutes. Double chance for UCD but their 'keeper saved and another over the bar. After creating a corner or two Derry played knocked the ball around the box for Deery to score from outside the box.
UCD kept plugging away, Derry retreated a little. A double substitution and a further single one later in the game and we got a goal back.
It was a good game of football, in a normal year of bottom clubs taking from teams above them it's a missed opportunity but this is not a normal year.

I wouldn't bet on one, two, three or four points because we can play welland lose. We will keep pace with both opponents.

Brian De Salvo article written at the time, on loi.ie, starts with this game.

It might be worth some damn fools reading it. But they might know about it already.

I take it that 'damn' comment was aimed at me. It pains me that the whole gag of the title, which admittedly has obscure origins, has been lost on so many people. I acknowledge that in part I'm responsible.

As for the De Salvo's piece, it reads a little too much like an edition of the Belfieldian at the start.
