Shamrock Rovers have been evicted from Richmond Park, home of St Patrick's Athletic. The decision follows complaints from local residents and traders over a number of incidents, particularly the very ugly scenes outside the Inchicore ground after the recent Rovers-Bohemians game.

St Pat's chairman Andy O'Callaghan said the eviction takes immediate effect.

Rovers must now find yet another home ground before their league game against UCD next Friday. It's believed they may approach UCD or even Bray Wanderers to make their grounds available.

Rovers chairman Tony Maguire said: "It is evident we have a serious problem with a small number of our supporters. We will proactively work with the FAI, Eircom league and Gardai to solve the problem."

They won't get Belfield anyway - I think that's fairly much certain. Might play our "away" game at home, but that's it.

Anyone read "The Great American Novel" by Philip Roth? It tells the tale of a Sportswriter recalling a "Major League Baseball team" called the Ruppert Mundys who were homeless for a season and played all their home games away.

...............Bray Town Council are expected to block any proposal for Premier Division nomads Shamrock Rovers, whose tenancy at Richmond Park was brought to an end by St Patrick’s Athletic this week, to play their home games at Bray Wanderers’ Carlisle Grounds venue.

Rovers were operating at the Inchicore venue this season while their new base at Tallaght was being completed.

However the Hoops are now homeless after the arrangement with St. Pats was terminated with immediate effect following crowd trouble at the recent Shamrock Rovers-Bohemians derby match.

Bray Town Council, owners of the Carlisle Grounds, are unlikely to accede to any request from Rovers to use the facility for the remaining two months of the season.

Shamrock Rovers have led a nomadic existence for almost two decades since vacating Glenmalure Park in Milltown in the mid-eighties and other temporary homes have included Tolka Park, the RDS and the Morton Stadium in Santry before the brief but ill-fated residency in Inchicore.

Their previous landlords, St Patrick's Athletic, kicked them out of the Inchicore venue following a number of the violent incidents.

Other clubs are sympathetic, but they are unwilling offer Rovers a full-time home.

UCD secretary Dick Shakespeare, whose club's Belfield ground had been muted as a potential temporary home, says the matter is out of their hands.

"It is the College policy that the ground cannot be leased out to another club," said Shakespeare.

Bray and Shelbourne have yet to be approached by Rovers. Shelbourne are believed to be reluctant to once more expose their pitch to a third team - Belgrove are already tenants at Tolka Park.

Bray secretary Eddie Slevin has thus proposed that a unique rotation scheme should be investigated as a potential solution. "Nobody wants to see such a great club in the position they are in and anything we can do to alleviate their concerns should be looked at," said Slevin.

I'm presuming that if they did this, they get the gate and have to pay whatever expenses?
It might even work out better for them. Certainly, if they play their "home" game against City in Turner's Cross, even allowing for travel and the ground/security expenses, they would still get a decent gate, and probably get more money than they would get at the stadium of sh*te.
