Only way of remaining in the cup, is if Cork fold before the next round.
Nope. Killester got a bye when Dublin City folded. Monaghan weren't let back in.
Can't see it coming to that though.

It's on the Kildare County website that it's going ahead

My Da and six others were 15 mins from the ground when they got news of the Kildare postponement. Couldn't an inspection have been held last night or first thing this morning - lot of wasted journeys.

The draw had already been made at that point. If the draw hasn't been made and Cork fold, well that moves the goalposts again.

There was a pitch inspection at half ten this morning and the pitch was fine with no water on it at all. But later, there were some very heavy showers in the area and these showers caused the pitch to become water logged, so that when the match officials turned up at half twelve, they had no option but to call off the match....

Anyone got a new date for the Kildare game?
The fixture list released by the FAI last night doesn't mention it, despite Cup replays featuring.
usually it does be refixed for the date that the replay would have taken place in the event of a draw?

The BBC said it had been rearranged for Tuesday night.

The BBC said it had been rearranged for Tuesday night.
The fixture list for the 11-17/8 had an asterik against the game, saying that if a replay was required it would be on Tuesday.
The fixtures list for the 18/8-(released last night) doesn't mention the Derry game.

Wayside go one up in the 89th minute through a peno, Monaghan down to ten as well.

Huge storm down here at the moment. Was at the groud around an hour ago and the pitch is perfect though the wind could destroy any chance of a good game

No, because last night would have been 15 hours before the match and a lot could happen in the meantime. Pitch inspections have to be made close enough to the game almost by definition. It's annoying, but there's no way around that, and I don't know why people keep getting annoyed about it.

Heh, "unavailable." Couldn't have worked out any better for Kildare in the circumstances, good thing no jobsworth at the FAI threw a spanner in the works of a mutually beneficial arrangement.

They'll do better out of 45% of a Brandywell gate than 55% of a home one I bet - or is that what you meant?
Sheridan
18/08/2008, 12:14 AM
Yes, that is what I meant. Hence the "mutually beneficial." Plus, the team which cedes home advantage in these circumstances is usually allocated the home, rather than the away, team's percentage of the gate.

Very true.
Nine SC's buses plus a lot more than normal league games made there way to Kildare on saturday which would have helped bolster the attendance.
But with the game being called off I'm sure very little (probably less than 150) Derry fans would have went down again this tuesday.
Financially for Kildare, a game at the Brandywell is probably what they really need right now and obviously Derry wont complain.

Looked certain to go to a replay. No doubt about the penalty and red card at the end either.

I was at their game on Sunday, no wonder they looked tired ;)
Seriously though, no arguments about the result; It looked destined for a replay but then our centre backs couldn't deal with a straightforward punt upfield from the 'keeper.

Why has Derry's game been moved to a home match? It's hardly Kildare's fault the pitch was flooded...I assume they agreed to it?

Yep, they agreed to it. Apparently Station Road has no chance of being playable anytime soon. Kildare are probably just thinking of the money. It'll be a much bigger crowd at the Brandy. Still think it's a bit weird though, giving up home advantage. It was probably their best chance of getting through.

True, however they are in financial difficulty and a crowd of 3,000 as opposed to the c.500 they would get at Station Road, coupled with the cost of staging the match, would swing them into moving it as you said. They only stand a very marginal chance anyway...

And Sod's Law says if they won, they'd be knocked out by Wayside or Fingal in the next round.
