Thursday, not on TV I think in Sweden.

Elfborg will be better technically than Pats and should win this game easily enough.

I think that in order to compete at this level you need very good players technically and there are simply very few of these in Ireland or Britain.

My forecast is a 1 or 2 goal victory for the Elfs.

Irish clubs have done well in Europe and have done us proud but every team has too many weak links so I expect pats to get beaten.

Sweden showed during the EUROS that they aren't a nation blessed with techically gifted footballers. Elfsborg had one player that started for Sweden in the EUROS, a player that was rejected by the mighty Southampton.

I think it will be two low scoring games with Pats advancing to the next round.

I can see Elfsborg winning 3-0 at home and a score draw in Dublin.

You can only predict a score like that if you the Elfsborg squad, strengths etc. The question is do you know about them or are you just guessing in case things go wrong.

Torn Ado would be very aware of the Elfborg squad and their strenghts but may not be too au fait with Pats.

My heart says Pats to advance on away goal! Head is leaning to a narrow defeat thansk to an away goal

Thats true alright, I am in the same boat. However, Swedish football is in revival and they will be good technically

You can not say, Swedish football is good technically, if you do not know about the teams and the way they play.

Swedish football is falling further and further behind its Nordic neighbours Denmark and Norway for the simple reason that Norwegian and Danish clubs can offer Swedish players more in wages due to tax advantages. FC Copenhagen have just signed the two best players in the Swedish league and Elfsborg's goalie will be joining them after the end of this season. This isn't nothing new - it's being going on for quite a while now and will continue for the foreseeable future.

Ive seen a few games over the years including a game against Lingfield. Technically they were excelelnt and also like most northern teams very physical and good in the air. Hope Im wrong but this won't be easy for Pats and cannot see them win. Remember that Pats have only had 1 away win in 50 years in Europe.

Christ. I know enough about the Elfsborgs squad to predict that they'll easily beat St Pats at home and probably draw away. They're far more technically gifted than Pats and I'm not sure that St Pats can cope on an artificial pitch against a side who play all their how games there. Obviously I hope I'm wrong

So whats your prediction?

Having watched Elfsborg play AIK Stockholm on sunday, if they play the way they did that day Pats will have a very hard time of it. They have some very handy players.

I feel that Elfsborg are a better team and will have too much for pats - but if Drogs can come within a whiseker of beating Kiev than there is always a chance for teams like pats against the likes of Elfsborg. The difference in quality isn't that great and hopefully pats can pull off an upset. I wouldn't be too confient about pats in the away leg though as they don't seem to do well away in europe

The result away to Odense last year wasn't good and granted that alone gives reason for concern. However Elfsborg don't have a great record in Europe either. Dynamo Bucharest is the only team of note that they have knocked out of Europe - and that was last year (on away goals).

Seem to be extremely defensive.

They have only conceaded 1 goal at home all season. They have won their last 5 matches so are certainly due an upset.

I predict 1-0 but its a total guess as Ive never seen they play :D

They lost 4-2 in the Cup last week.

I think we'll lose both legs. Hope I'm wrong

so long as its not the usual hammering anyway.

Would that be the hammering Gothenborg gave to Derry or those handed out to Cork by Malmo and Djurgardens?

Elfsborg are rightly favourites but Pats have a good chance here.

1-1 in Sweden, 0-0 in Inchicore. Pats to go through on away goals.

is everybody on here an expert on elfsborg or what ? lets give pats a bit of credit. an away goal would be vital if they could get it.

I think the Drogheda result will give Pats more confidence going into this match and an upset could be on the cards.

Lets be honest here. Elfsborg are hardly AC Milan. If Pats can get an away goal they've a very good chance of progressing. I can imagine Elfsborg will expect to go through but I can also be sure that Pats will have no fears going into the tie and will be thinking they can progress. Time will tell....

Prediction:
Away 1-1
Home 0-0

Pats scrape through on away goals.

Elfs 1 Pats 0
Pats 1 Elfs 1

Any sort of away goal would be great for Pats even 1-3. Despite being favourites I can't remember the last time Swedish team trashed an Irish team.

Beating Riga 1-0 on aggregate (scoreline suggests Elfsborg did not have luxury of playing reserve team in second leg) has to give Pats confidence.

Well, in my opinion, this is the strongest premier division there ever has been, certainly a very strong big 4 - Drogs, Pats, Bohs and Cork.

Pats are the best team in the league by far and should win it - remember if anyone can Fenlon can (mess it up)

Fancy Pats to get a score draw away from home.

I seen how good Swedish football is 1st hand when I watched cork win and also Derry two years ago.

Pats to have to much for them.

That'll be the same Drogs we've beaten home and away this season and who've been trailing us all season?

Pats in Europe = 5-0 defeat.

You'd know a bit about 5-0 games involving Pats of course.

Our away form is far better than out home form so I'm predicting a score draw in Sweden and cracker of a home game.

Elfs to go through on away goals.

Odense wasn't a one-off, there's a lot of shame in that.

I watched Elfsborg home and away last season against Linfield. Elfsborg are a good side, pretty good technically, play nice football, but cautious. I think if St Pats hope to get anything out of this game, they need to keep it tight and hit on the counter without committing too many players to the attack.

Linfield last season where a couple of inches away from putting them out last season and the LOI are better equipped for Europe than Linfield, due to you being in the middle of your season and not allowing players to skip the game to play with micky mouse in disney land.

My Prediction, 1-1 in Dublin, 1-0 to elfsborg in Sweden.

It wont be no massacre.

We've never lost a single game by 7 though. So, you know, it could be worse. Seriously, I don't belive anyone in this league is in a position to start pointing fingers when it comes to European results.

Every club has the one-off bad European result over 30-40 years. Cork have just got hit for 6 by a team from Finland. With Pats however, it's not a one-off.
