Can anyone help me out here, last season Cork had a problem registering players (Healy & Farrelly) as they would have played for 3 teams in the preceding 12 months so they had to wait until the August window to play them.

How come Gary Deegan, who played for Longford last December, Galway United up untill recently and Bohs now is not in a similar situation??

I seem to remember the rules being modified somewhat as we have a summer season but I thought that was only for players coming from a different country - as in one with a summer season.

Opinion??

It's not based on the calendar year but by the running of a season. Whether you consider the Winter season (August-June) or the Summer season (March-November), Bohs have not broken this rule.

he left by mutal consent

Is that not the same thing. I mean that if he had to leave Galway in the Cull is he not considered a free agent and the 3 club rule wouldnt apply or am I reading it wrong?

I think the rule was adapted for summer seasons, and now disallows players from playing for 3 LOI clubs in a season. His games for Longford were last season

A player can join three clubs and play for two in a year from July 1st around to June 30th (i think i have the dates right) unless the club runs in the summer season.

In short ..... he is fine !!

I believe the rule was removed if crossing between summer-winter seasons?

If rule still exists having your contract voided or released by mutual consent but not exempt from it.

Different rules for different clubs (exemption for Liverpool) so maybe FIFA made an exemption for the Big Club?

No, they just ammended the rule. Its ok in this case but its still not 100% water tight either. FIFA have to sort this out once and for all, but there isn't even a mention of them looking at it.

That's exactly it. The dates are imposed by either UEFA or FIFA. Irish players fell into a problem because our transfer window only starts on 1st July so if you moved during that window you couldn't move again at the end of the season. The FAI sought clarification on it after the Farrelly/Healy cases and got a change due to our summer football rules. I think there's still an issue for players moving from summer to winter playing countries.
