I don't think I've ever agreed with anything Paul Doolin has said, but I do agree with him on this -- Doolin lashes Collins (Indo) (http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/eircom-league/doolin-lashes-collins-1446586.html?r=RSS)
Roddy Collins in his current hyper-negative incarnation must be RTE's revenge on the league for their being arm-wrestled into covering Irish football via MNS. What else would explain the constant and unfailingly dreary presence on our screens and radio waves of this wrecker pundit? No other sport has to put up with it: why should football?

RTE still stick with Dunphy, even though he's a muppet of the highest order, outshining even Roddy in the idiocy stakes.
Ratings is the reason. People like to watch Dunphy. It's possible RTE believe that Roddy will attract higher ratings.
I quite enjoyed Doolin's little dig at Roddy in that interview.

I thought Collins was a disgrace that night and noted it on another post , the man is full of negative vibes and has got massive chips on his shoulders, ricardson was fit to hit him that night as was the main presenter , Collins was interupted mid flow with the Shelbourne result to shut him up and he had a right hissy sulk fit , hopefully somebody can put up a youtube , one of the drogs at the game may have taped it. Was thinking of complaining to RTe but this would probably enhance his reputation aka Dunphy style.

I saw the previous discussion, and I agree with you. But I thought it significant that a manager, and a club, has come out to take on this blatantly self-serving moan and the RTE and Newstalk producers who insist on hiring him.

roddy has said on tv/radio that there is a campaign to keep him out of management in ireland and i think 'even though he has some valid points' he uses the media to get back at the league...don think kevin hunt is the best midfielder in the league currently(i know he's gone but thats what roddy said) as he said on mns last night either

In fairness with three teams going down this year even Roddy would have difficulty managing all of them for a spell before jumping ship/being sacked before they were mathematically relegated.

When I'm watching RTE's coverage and Roddy's there I just switch off until the match starts and then again at half time and full time. Roddy's word has never been worth **** (``I'll take Carlisle to the Premier League``) and the thought that visitors to these isles may switch on the TV and see this man talk about our league makes me cringe.
He probably arrives at the studios in a sidecar with Dunphy on the bike.
Hunt hasn't been the best midfielder in years. He probably was for one year un between osam retiring and Gamble flousihsing at Cork
Roddy's a tawt. Everyone who matters knows that.

:-) I was thinking he is more of a horse and trap man judging by his pikey dress sense.
Did not see the RTE coverage of the Drogs game so can only comment on the quotes attributed to him. As always there is a hint of truth in what Roddy has to say but because he is so self obsessed he has to exaggerate so any message is lost.
There is some truth in the fact that some clubs are increasing salaries to the same pool of players.
Spot on Pete. Roddy goes way too far, but he often points out truths that are a little uncomfortable for a lot of people. That said, I did think he was even more over the top than usual during that coverage.

No doubt about it, Roddy is there as the 'bad guy' for the ratings. He's definitely the Dunphy/Simon Cowell equivalent. The guy you love to hate. Sure, he gets people talking, doesn't he?
Surprised nobody else has commented on Doolin's pitch-size comment? He's dead right about that, these tiny pitches don't help anything, especially the players who try to express themselves.

sure you can only laugh at collins otherwise he could annoy you everytime you hear him. granted he had a point in what he said but its a point that didnt need to be made imo, anyone with half a brain could see the gulf in class at that game and everyone knows why. you can bet if he was managing that drogheda side he would be singing a different tune altogether.

:D Whichever way gets him more attention suits him best. I can imagine him with the horse, waiting for a valet to come and park it for him (RTE have valet's right ?).
As some people have pointed out Roddy's statements fairly regularly will contain truth that is disguised by the amount of bullcrap that accompanies it.

Collins is Collins. We know what he is. What is at issue here is the at best unimaginative or at worst simply spiteful producers who relentlessly put him on to utter the same 'truths' time and time again.

Spot on. A lot of what Roddy says is actually true but the way he articulates it is full of spite.
I was as critical as anyone of Drogs last week but when Roddy does it I get the sense that he has a vendetta against Doolin. He had a right pop off him a couple of weeks back on MNS over Jason Gavin and it came across as personal to me. Similarly, some of his comments last season on Dermot and Alan Keely were absolutely disgraceful.
I don't think you can dismiss him as lightly as some people do. He knows what he's talking about, in part, but he should leave the bile out of it.
Sure, he gets people talking, doesn't he?
He gets me turning off. Maybe that's RTE intention - getting even the people who follow the league to turn off their coverage and MNS, and then claim poor viewing figures?

He was on the cL coverage now , He's a ****
RTE2 viewing figures for last week were 126k for Drogs v Kiev which was 16th that week. How many did Roddy bring in?

There is a failed builder in Dublin tonight with egg all over his face and Im not talking about Dustin the Turkey.
Collins is lucky he is well connected about Donnybrook because he simply is not well suited for TV

The only reason he is on the telly is because of posts like yours. He gets people talking!
He's still a goon tho.

I think he is excellent on TV if sometimes I don't agree with his views.
Good to have a bit of debate.
Too many Pat Morleys spoil the broth.

Since the Celtic tiger no builder comes cheap ;)
Im sure he is very well connected through Steve and his property development friends. He seems to be very well known. Pity hes so stupid though.
He did Drogheda a big favour by telling them they are rubbish. Great for motivation.

What´s this bullsh!t about ´He gets people talking sure ? Last time I looked, RTE2 was a TV channel - not a radio phone-in show.
Seriously - what benefit to RTE is there in having people talking negatively about one of their presenters ? Anyone who thinks Roddy has the power to single-handedly pull-in incremental viewers to RTE´s coverage of anything is even more deluded than Roddy himself..

He´s right - there is a campaign to keep him out of the Eircom League. It´s called ´quality control´. He´s sh!te, everyone knows he´s sh!te, so hence he can´t get a job.
There´s also a conspiracy to stop me playing for Barcelona and nailing Angelina Jolie...

Apparently he's had a bit of a lovers' tiff with his property developer mates who were scouring the western world looking for his next muse. He might be out of the game even longer now. My heart bleeds for him.

That is seriously good news. Hopefully it is time now and he blows the candle out on dream of managing a LOI team again. Seriously someone should suggest China to him, and i'm being dead serious as well. Korea, Tibet, Japan, just somewhere far away. We have suffered enough at this stage, its someone else turn surely :mad:

How well would that English club have done against Dynamo Kiev when Shoddy was managing them?
Oh yes, they would have lashed them out of it, would of made the group stages, beaten Barca at the Nou Camp and lifted the trophy...of course.

I actually thought he was doing well on MNS there for a while.
I have not being so intensly gripped watching football as I was during that match for a long time-to start yapping about stats was self indulgent and totally missed the point.
Richardson cares about Irish football but Roddy displayed a horrible self absorption.

Me too :ball:
Drogs wore them down & made Kiev loose confidence in themselves. By the end of it Drogs looked so much better than Kiev - it was amazing to see an Irish team doing that to a team of such quality.

DK didn't lose confidence, they got far too much of it. At 2-1 up they put on a young player that had never played for the club at that level. They nearly paid the price for their cockiness and their lack of respect.
