View Full Version : Next Season...

I suppose it's time to start dealing with the prospect of next season, if we go down I hear that we'll go part time, I suppose we'll also lose a good chunk of the team (O' Shea, Glynn, Fenn, Rodgers, Fitzgearld and Lester) apart from O' Shea and Glynn we could get over losing them. We seem to have a core of local lads that are likely to stay with the team so I'm not too corcerned about Div 1 (I think we can come straight back up)
But what happens if we stay up?? (it could happen!)
We need to go part time next season to manage financially... so do we lose our better players and resign ourselves to another dog fight and are we in a position to sign a few players (a tall and mobile striker, a good centre midfielder and a decent centre back or 2 come to mind instantly)
I don't see any way out of the current crisis other than going down and rebuilding with local players and cast offs which is not a comforting thought, even if we survive in the Prem we're still bo**ocks'ed for next season unless we magic a load of money out of somewhere.... :(

Relax. Not long to go now. Primary school will be re-opening shortly!:)
Best thing to do is ignore them and they go away.

next yearwe will be based on a model that Norway clubs use which is Full time footballer and part time worker
As regaurds players wont sign for us as we are not full time, our sigings cant be any worse than some of muck(not all of them) that TC brought in.
It does not matter what division were are in next season a clear out of players is needed so jeff can build his own team
we will stay up

We've been bottom pretty much all season, hired a rookie manager, lost our 2 best players, been sh1t at the back, winless at home in the league and apparently we've no money..... so please forgive me if I question some of the decisions that the people running my beloved club have made.....
I want to see GUFC doing well as much as the next man but let's face it we need to be very critical about how things are going... if we accept crap decision making and just go along with what's happening then we'll be back in mid Div 1 very quickly with only derby games Athlone and Lim37 to look forward to.... remember 3-4 seasons ago... before a DVD got us promoted and Dundalk screwed over? I don't want to go back there, but releasing Wes, Reggie, Robson, O Flynn, Deegan and selling Derek O' Brien is not the way to get ourselves out of the ****...
The only positives I've seen have been the quality of Glynns finishing, Seamus Conneely breaking into the team and Ciaran Foley coming back from injury, Rouse being picked ahead of Rogers...
What else is there to be so excited about... shipping 4 goals against an overrated Derry side in 30mins.....

a well thought out response which proves me completely wrong in my contention that my beloved club is being run very badly... that really showed me......

Where to begin:confused:
We were not promoted to anything ahead of Dundalk. We were invited to join a new league along with 11 other clubs. If you or John Gill bothered to read the rules of the competition you would understand this simple fact. Waterford were next in line, so Dundalk wouldn't have got the next spot either.
Did u see the Derry game? Rouse starting is a posotive?
Wes past it.
Robson sicknote, O'Flynn sicknote, of no benifit to the club.
Deegan showed promise.
Reggi of last year, or the couple of games when he was trying to get a new club this year, would be a loss. The Reggi for the majority of this season is not.
O'Brien is the only significant loss.
There has been no lmajor decrease in form so far by all these players leaving. In fact we have won as many games since they left as we did when they were all here. The table doesn't lie.
The glass isn't always half empty, sometimes it's half full. Despite everything we are 3pts from staying up with 33pts to play for

Did you see Rodgers' distribution against Sligo??? he hoofed everything up field without as much as a look... Rouse at least chucks the ball out and gives the LB and RB and Jay a chance to go forward...with the BALL
Robson was showing great promise last season and we held onto him until he was fit and then released him, Deegan was inclined to pick up cards but he got stuck in and tried to stop other teams playing, if we only got €25k for Derek O' Brien why sell him?? in the greater scheme of things blunting our best attacking option is a big price to pay when you only get €25k in return (did we even get that money from Pats yet?)
Yes we were invited to join the new Premier league over Dundalk and Waterford... but do you remember Dundalk taking us apart in Terryland near the end of that season, they were a much better footballing side!
I love my club but let's face it stupid decisions are being made and we as fans have the right to express dissatisfaction with the loss of good players and a failure by management and board to rectify obvious weaknesses in our team...... I think the 2nd half against Derry was quite a positive performance and yes we are close enough to safety, however we need to start winning at home....now
