Roddy not in the running - report

Drogheda United are reported to have distanced themselves from claims that they will approach the controversial former Bohemians and Carlisle United manager Roddy Collins to take over as manager at O2 Park.

The Drogheda Board of Directors voted unanimously to terminate the contract of previous manager Harry McCue at a meeting on Monday night, and speculation about the identity of his successor is intensifying.

The outspoken Collins, who himself was sacked by Carlisle last week, had emerged as a realistic contender for the position, but a newspaper report in the Irish Sun claims that the Drogheda powers-that-be are not interested in bringing Roddy to Boyneside.

Collins maintained his sacking-a-year record with last week’s dismissal from Carlisle: he had previously been dismissed from his first term at Carlisle by former club owner Michael Knighton, and was sacked by Bohemians after leading the Dalymount Park club to the eircom League and FAI Cup double in 2001.
