Advocaat forbids players to participate in late night match

BARCELONA, Sep 2 (SW) - The idea of FC Barcelona to play their Spanish league match against Sevilla at 12:05am on Wednesday, in order to be able to let seven players, including five dutchmen play, has received a blow as Dick Advocaat forbids participation of his players in this night match.

The 5 were called for the Dutch national team but for Barcelona this meant a severely weakened team, and the club tried to move their Wednesday fixture to Tuesday but opponents Sevilla disagreed. As solution, the Catalan club decided to schedule the match on Wednesday, but only 5 minutes after midnight, so their international players could still be fielded.

However, today the news is that Dick Advocaat, coach of the national team, does not want his players to participate in the match against Sevilla.

Cocu, Reiziger, van Bronckhorst and Overmars will now not be playing for Barcelona and Patrick Kluivert was already suspended.

The plan to play at this time still brings something good to coach Frank Rijkaard as he will be able to field Turkish goalkeeper Rüstü and the Portugese forward Quaresma.
