the above heading is on the front page of the web site and the club have now set up a bank account (permanent tsb) and number where any body worldwide can make a contribution to the fundraiser. as i am not technically astute can somebody down load the page and post it on the bulletin board. the reason for this is that a lot of people read the posts but don't always read what the club posts.what i have done and would advise all others to do is to e mail this page to friends and acquaintences as an attachment so they will be able to read the plea for help. i already have sent it out to 40 e mail addresses and have asked the recipents to forward it on to their friends (especially people who have connections with sligo) i also have attached a personal note and signed my name to it with my moblie number so that recipients can talk to me if they wish about different ways to donate to the club

Here's the text from the site:

Friday, 18 July 2008 On Monday 14th July 2008 Sligo Rovers Football Club told the world that we are in serious financial difficulty and that if we do not get a major cash injection we may not see out our league campaign As a result of this the club announced two major fundraising ideas
(1)Join a Sligo Rovers syndicate for a one off minimum payment of €50 each syndicate totals €1000,and there is a fantastic prize of 2 corporate box tickets for Anfield , flights transfers and two nights accommodation for the Liverpool V Manchester Utd game in September all sponsored by the Sligo Weekender.
(2)A new share drive.Anyone can buy a share in Sligo Rovers Football Club for a one off payment of €635 or it can be payed through direct debt over three years.
So far there has been a positive reaction to both these fundraisers and the club have had calls from all over Ireland and beyond, and the club have been asked to make their banking details public so anyone can donate from anywhere,so here they are-
Permanent T.S.B. O'Connell Street Sligo sort code 990628 account no 70827908.
Also people have the opportunity if they wish to help the club by joining our online Lotto on our home page http://www.sligorovers.com (http://www.sligorovers.com/) .For further information please contact the Showgrounds on 0719171212 between 10am-2pm or by e-mail at commercial@sligorovers .com.

Anyone with a Bebo, Myspace, Facebook or similar account, put a mention of it on there as well. I'd imagine a lot of Sligo expats get info that way and would be willing to make some kind of contribution.

Sent the following to 19 people just now. To be honest, there's probably only 2 of them that are likely to give anything, but it's better than nothing.
-----------------
Hello everyone,

I'd like to take a moment of your time to inform you of the plight of Sligo Rovers Football Club.
In late 2006, the club decided to go from a semi-pro status to full-time, in a bid to challenge the country's top teams and have a shot at playing European football. While the team has been relatively successful on the field, unfortunately the numbers coming through the turnstiles have not been sufficient to pay the ever-increasing costs of running a Premier
Division football club.
Essentially, full-time football is not possible in Sligo. The club's board has realised this, and the club will most likely revert to part-time football again next season. However, the damage has been done...
SRFC are over €300,000 in the red. If substantial funds are not raised by the end of August, the club will cease to exist in its 80th year. The funds needed by the end of August total €130,000.

If you would like to, or can in any way afford, to help the club through this crisis, it would be very much appreciated by the club and by myself. The club's bank details are in the statement below.

This is not a joke or a scam. You can check the official website, www.sligorovers.com (http://www.sligorovers.com/), or any number of independent media websites to verify the story.

Please keep League of Ireland football alive in Sligo. Man Utd don't need your money. Neither do Liverpool or Celtic.
A hard-working Irish club does.

Lads can anybody tell me how the draw for the Pool v Utd match works. Personally im not bothered bout it, but ive convinced a few people at work to cough up the 50 quid and one asked me - how do you be part of the draw, when you make a cash lodgment into a bank.

Your best of joining a syndicate, the winning syndicate will be drawn and then whoever put the name in that syndicate and then i would suppose that the members of the syndicate will put their names in a hat to draw the winners, well that why we are doing. Sligo23 i think was looking for more particpants in his syndicate he has a thread on here about it give him a PM syndicate 37 is the name of it.

P.S. just tell them there name is entered into the draw automatically which is the truth.

That is true, Sligoman, the club will have no record of people who donate to the bank a/c so they will not be in the draw, anyone can call into the Showgrounds if they want a line in a syndicate.

i was not sure where to but it but €130,000 owed is to the tax man and has to be paid by early October.

the e 130000 is not all for the revenue. the revenue have to be paid every month (prsi) the 130000 is for a mix of things but mainly wages to keep the club going throug august as we have only tw home games and no league game will be paid on cup weekend. it is important to note that sligo rovers would not have an "a" licence if they owed the revenue k130. so emphatically kill that rumour that all the money is due to the revenue. this type of sensationalism only gives the club a bad name. lets just get on with the fundraising and remain positive.

My dad is one of the many used-to-go-every-week-but-haven't-been-to-a-game-in-years fellas.
Told him about the crisis, he read the papers about it, and wrote them a cheque for a substantial 3-figure sum. :)
If every adult in the county gave the same, we'd only need 2600 people to pay up.

Does anyone know when the actual draw is taking place?

Someone gave me a 50 but I'm away for a while so not sure when I can give it to someone with a card

Hey Patrick a little off topic but serious question what is Galway's attitude towards summer football? Would fans ( not just hardcore) rather it went back the to Winter or rather happy to leave it as a summer game?

Patrick Dunne
24/07/2008, 11:29 PM
There is a lot happening in Galway during the summer - Arts Festival, Races and generally both of the Gaelic teams doing reasonably well. The only competition in the winter is Connacht (rugby) who play on the same night as United.

There does not seem to be a demand to return to winter football from the supporters or from club management. However, we have a much larger catchment area than most EL clubs, so we are better equipped than many to withstand external pressures on our crowds.

Our attendances are mainly based on the performance of the team. We have a hardcore of only around 500 supporters. The rest come and go, depending on the division we are in, and what position on the table.

Going to have a little rant for a moment or two, if everyone can bear with me.
1. regarding the share drive, would it be possible to have a page on the official website with the application form to print off. A friend of mine had to contact the club and was told they would send one out. Lets try and make it as easy as possible for people to give money.
2. 400 club, does anyone know how this works, how to join or whats the story??
3. The €50 syndicate, if you dont live around Sligo where can you buy a line?
4. Player sponsorship, looking at a recent programme alot of our players are not sponsored. How much is it to sponsor a player? Is there too high a price on this? Is this why so many not sponsored?
5. Club shop, a disaster, went up before Derry game to buy home jersey for my son, only to be told that they were all gone, was planning on buying one for myself as well. This was 50 minutes before kick off. Wonder how many other sales were lost that day.

Firstly I'm not knocking anyone, but the club must sell these ideas to the public, its a product so sell it, but it must be simple.
Wolud suggest that the club have a page on the website solely dedicated to fundraising where people could access all the info. We live in an age where people are used to having information at their fingertips, and like it or not alot are too lazy to actually search out info.
If anyone has ever been involved in running any type of a club, you will know it is important to make every cent count, no matter how small the income will be it all adds up, from the sweet shop to the half time raffle. Only found out where the sweet shop had moved to two weeks ago. Always spent €4 or €5 euro there before a match.

I thought it would have been a good idea to send out info about the fundraisers(syndicate, quizzes, poker night) through the rovers text messages.
