Especially since the transfer deadline in the English leagues was yesterday...

From FAI.ie

Shelbourne’s Wes Hoolahan and Sunderland’s Sean Thornton have withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland Under 21 side for tomorrow’s game against Russia at the RSC in Waterford

Flynny will be missing the services of a great play-maker.
Unlucky too for Houlihan.

Isn't it odd how the League was so secondary to Shels that they changed their fixtures to accomodate a píss pot "tournament" with English clubs. Now the Ireland U21's are so unimportant they pull Houlihan out of the squad so that he can play for them in the League?
What an oddball club!

They are indeed and the few times I have seen Shels play this season, Wes has not even started most of the games.

Peader, is that def. true? i was under the impression that the international team had priority and the only way a club could pull a player is if they were injured.

or has ollie paid off someone ????

I think it was agreed with Don Givens that it would be for the best if Wes went back to his club because of the "injuries" Shels have.

It must be very odd, because when our manger wanted the same thing, fans of most of the Dub clubs and a few fans of a midland club thought he was mouthing off, causing trouble and acting the b*llox.
Curiouser and curiouser....

Well I wouldn't be one of them, Clubs should take priority over U21 matches, espically when Houlihan is second choice for the U21s.

they shouldn't have to change anything or call anybody back from the squad because the matches should not clash at all.its time now we were like the rest of the world and not have domestic matches at the same time as internationals.its just stupid having players being called up and having club matches at the same time.

dcnags has a point.
We all want to see our local club players breaking into the Senior, U-21 and other teams. If this is to continue, then we need to move club games so as they don't clash with internationals.
Clunbs shouldn't have to play without their best players, as these guys are who the public pay to watch.

More of the FAI's incompetence.
