View Full Version : Leech on way out

Heard that Leech has signed for Shamrock Rovers. One goal in 16 league games says it all, another poor Cousins signing, won't accept arguments that he tried and all that crap becausde the number of headers he ducked out of was reprehensible, and his job was to score goals. Not one goal, but goalS. Yes, we are down to 2 fit strikers, but both have found the net this season on a fraction of the game time Leech had, so thanks for nothing Tony's Cousin, now on yer bike

I assume this will free up the space to let Jeff and Fozzie sign, Fozzie could be better so i'm not too disappointed, he'll only have to score two to have a better season!!

I think we'll miss him. Hope I'm wrong...

How will we miss a striker with such a bad record?? Because there'll be no one left to hurl abuse at is about the only reason

Thanks, Woodquay Boy. The post-Sligo revisionism about Leech is bizarre.

I have said before that I have always liked Leech and nothing will change my mind on that . He reads the game very well and the problem with him not scoring would be down to service I would say . Bring back Barry Moran:eek::eek::eek:

Molloy, Glynn, VInny, O'Shea and O'Brien have all lived off the same supply and have a better hit rate, hell, even Fitzy scored from open play with a shot against Shams.
Post SLigo, pre Sligo, poo Sligo, whatever you want to say, never rated Leech, one goal in 16 games means, for me, he is now challenging Neville Steedman as the WORST striker United ever had.

I always rated Leech. Didn't score, but held up the ball wele and looked like a good footballer. I think Kenna is a good manager and he must also have rated him as he always started in the league.
The abuse he got was unacceptable and there were some in teh crowd always on his back, but strangely would not give the same abuse to the defence that was conceding ridiculous goals in every game (not that I condone abusing any player).

WoodquayBoy

Looked like a good footballer? Are you serious, that is the new criteria, looking like a footballer! Oh Lord.
And he never gave abuse to his defence as he just never communicated.
Just checked Shams official club site where they confirm they have signed him. Unsurprisingly, there is nothing on the United site about it

Waste of space, 1 goal in 16 games is a crap return. Bring back Ryan Lucas all is forgiven!

According to the Sun, Deegan to Brighton on trial or if he cant cut it there Shams look likely to sign him.

Deegan definetly wont cut it at brighton

i think leech is and soon to be was our best striker - if we were in the top half he would easily have had 10 goals

vinny and to lesser extent daisy are headless chickens most of the time running round after the ball

leech is technically our best striker - just had crap service - then fell out with the fans - then was under huge pressure - having little to no confidence with the bottom of the table team

like another poster above said - we should be slating our backs this season - for falling asleep goals in the first 5 mins - and DOB and JOS for not knowing/bothering to track back

then get on leechs back by all means for not scoring...

Rumours around Ballybofey is that one if not two of your squad on their way to Harps next week.

Deegan? Why not Russler if they're interested in one of them. (I'm glad they're interested in Deegan instead though)

I actually think Leech can look quite useful in holding the ball up and laying it off for other people but he doesn't look like a striker who will score many goals. He's definitely not a poacher. More someone who likes to drop deep and link up play.

He would probably do alright in a team that could provide good service and if he was paired with a good penalty box striker. Not sure if Shams is that team though.

He looked poor last Tuesday against Bray when every other Utd player was made to look good by Bray's performance.
Im surprised nobody has come in for Russell, him and Stuart Byrne would be my dream midfield combo.

John Fitzgerald and John Lester have been linked with Finn Harps.

Glynn finally gets a star and scores twice. Leech is NO LOSS. And gufct, you have pointed out a couple of times thgat Regi has been poor this season, so why change tack now and complain about a possible departure?

I'd be surprised if Glynn isn't snapped up now too! Along with the corner flags and the new scoreboard :(

Exactly people would want to start opening their eyes and start asking questions. There could be as many as 5 players leaving in the next week if something isnt done.

The club have done nothing to raise extra revenue bar 1/2 season tickets where they have rang 10 people i have sold seaon tickets to see will they buy one. There are loads of people willing to help but until they are told the truth and the present powers that be accept there part in the shambles it would be very hard for anyone to sell tickets for the draw.

There is €10,000 to be raised quickly if the player sponsors were sold.

So instead of seeing a chink of light with Glynn finally getting a start and scoring, instead I should be lamenting the fact we have any players at all as they are bound to be sold, especially one who looks like he can find the net? Yes, times are bad, but stop the craw-thumping, look for the positives and get behind the club, or what's left of it, while there is anything left to get behind.
That said, maybe time to let our feeling be known on Friday

It's impossible to get behind the club with the way they are behaving at the moment. Get behind the team by all means, but as you said yourself

maybe time to let our feeling be known on Friday

Leech left for nothing? That is great, I thought we'd have to pay someone to take him off our hands so that's a bonus right there

We probably did have to pay him something to get rid of him. Doubt Rovers are giving him what he got here. Funny reading Scully's views on him, "a natural goalscorer". Maybe that's why he didn't have to work.

Thats very true Terry. When we tried to sign Dessie Baker Rovers offered more than we could afford so we signed Leech instead. Players in Galway would be very much on the lower end of the full time scale despite what some would lead you believe.

Talk of us signing him according to a poster on our forum. Is he full-time with you?
Couldn't see him coming to us in fairness.
