A twenty-four man party for the above two games. Joe Murphy instead of Paddy Kenny? Stephen MacPhail instead of Andy Reid? I know Brian Kerr doesn't want to take risks , certainly with the Russia game, but these two lads must be asking themselves what they have to do...

Squad: Given (Newcastle United), Colgan (Stockport County), Murphy (West Bromwich Albion), Breen (Sunderland), Carr (Tottenham Hotspur), Cunningham (Birmingham City), Dunne (Manchester City), Finnan (Liverpool), O'Brien (Newcastle United), O'Shea (Manchester United), Harte (Leeds United), Carsley (Everton), Healy (Sunderland), Holland (Charlton Athletic), Kilbane (Sunderland), Kinsella (Aston Villa), McPhail (Nottingham Forest), Quinn (Sheffield Wednesday), Reid (Blackburn Rovers), Duff (Chelsea), Morrison (Birmingham City), Connolly (West Ham United), Doherty (Tottenham Hotspur), Lee (Cardiff City).
Unless there are injuries Kerr will not bring any new players in as he is not likely to use anyone he doesn't know in a competitive match. If Kerr had a few injuries to his squad it would quickely get very thin.
Even withstanding the poor options in midfield IMO McPhail does not really merit a place. Only other option i can think of offhand is Delap who has not impressed at international level yet.
I would not be surprised if a few extra players (maybe from u-21s) are called into squad for the Turkey game.

Surely Flynny would do as good a job as any of those wasters?

Been debated how useless Connolly is already but can't see Kerr dropping him from the squad yet.
Certainly wouldn't rule out O'Flynn getting a callup for Turkey if any forwards drop out after Russia. Hes more or less first choice u-21 forward now & I can't think of any other forwards ahead of him for the senior squad as Sadlier is probably injured cos not seen him on Milwall team sheet...

don't forget Robbie Keane will be available and Kerr will probably throw him in prior to the Swiss game to warm up.
having said that, I think there will be a good few players dropping out for the Turkey friendly, and you'd never know, if he does well against Russia in the U21 game Flynn could get a shot, Givens rates him anyway.
I was a bit surprised that McPhail made it in, after going on loan to Forest, a club where young Andy Reid would have seemed a better option given his form.

givens needs Reid in the under 21s doesnt he?
and PLEASE about the o flynn/glen crowe rule, i'll gladly sing their praises if some one answers me dis: if he's sooooo much better than connolly, doc et al, why aint he playin in the prem or first div, both leagues which are, im sorry, love EL but have to be honest, superior?? eh?? does he not like money and recognition??
complain about connolly all you like. when john o flynn goes over and scored 20 odd goals in the first div, ill consider him instead

If 'Flynny' had the same international goals record as that 'waster' morrison foot.ie would explode with the amount of messages comparing him to pele.
By the way, Kerr has said that he will likely bring people into the Turkish squad 'if needs be', basically after the anticipated drop outs, so we should see Reid and a few others from the U21s called up, like Thornton, Butler and maybe even Flynny himself.
Kerr was at the Forest match the other day, Reid yet again shone, scoring twice, his second a real peach. He's a gem and a future star.

Why isn't Michael Keane (Preston North End) in the FULL Ireland squad? Due to injury Keano couldn't make the recent trip to Poland (where the U-21s hammered Poland 5-1). What is the story??
Brian Kerr is suppised to be a day-sant manager! Mark ("mostly crap") Kinsella is still being considered for call-up to the full squad??
Give us a break! Keano is only MASSIVE!!!

Was talking to Tony Warner, the Millwall 'keeper, during the summer in Spain and by all accounts he reckons Sadliers career is very much in the balance and could even be over in the next season. He also told me that Reid was going to Blackburn long before he did, so he wasn't filling us with ****e.
On the EL vs current strikers - there's no way that any EL striker is better than what we already have. Morrisson will prove to be a very effective player yet and we all know the type of player Doherty is. Connolly scores bucket loads for everyone except Ireland but he's still better. It's a different level lads, just look at the EL clubs performances in Europe this year and you have your level for comparison.
Thornton, Reid, Greame Kavanagh and James O'Connor are surely worth a look though along with O'Flynn against Turkey.

That is a ridiculous comment.
Morrison:- Premiership player... 5 international goals,
Connolly:- 1st Division player... 20 plus goals a season striker...8 international goals,
Doherty:- Premiership player... 4 international goals,
Lee:- 1st Division player... yet to prove himself at internatinal level but Cardiff City felt the need to pay a substantial amount of money for his services.
O'Flynn is not in the same category as these players...yet.

I saw Kerr at the Bohs-UCD game on Friday night he was right in front of me. I reckon he might of been having a look at Crowe in case he needs to call someone into the squad for Turkey. Or maybe he just fancied a night out

Does no one actually read messages here.
I never said O'Flynn should get in ahead of the current 4 forwards in the senior squad. All I said is O'Flynn would probably first in line for callup if any drop outs after Russia as I can't think of anyone who would be ahead of him.
If someone can suggest an alternative forward fair enough.

Sads has two subs apps for Millwall this season and is well on the road to recovery. He only resumed full time training with the squad late having spent all summer working in the gym.

Tell me when in the last 4 years Connolly has performed for Ireland? He's had his chance and he's not up to standard, no matter how many goals he scores at club level.... This is not necessarily a call for O'Flynn, just a call for Kerr to give up on that tool.....
Morrison is a decent player, I just have problems with his attitude to playing for Ireland - and no matter how many times he kisses the crest that will not change.....
Doherty good target man, but IMO better coming off the bench
Lee - Haven't seen enough of, but wish he'd fooked off to play for the USA if thats an indicator of his attitude. David "I'm retireing from international football" Connolly Mark 2?

I'm not Connolly's biggest fan either but the fact is he is one of the few strikers we have to call on.
What are these supposed attitude problems with Morrison?

I think he may be referring quotes attributed to him about waiting for an England callup & them just settling for Ireland.

Well now he is with us and I don't think I have seen him play without commitment for Ireland.

yeah, he'd hardly be shortening his carerr and giving himself un due hassle if he didnt want to be playing for us...the fact that he still is wearing the green shirt shows hes doing more for his country now than some irish born players...

On Connolly, he did score 24 league goals last season, thats a hard statistic to argue against, he seems to have 'hit form'.
