O’Flynn a certainty for under-21 start
Cork City striker John O’Flynn will definitely start the Republic of Ireland under-21s’ European championship qualification match against Russia at the RSC in Waterford on Friday week, according to manager Don Givens.
Givens named his squad for the match on Wednesday, opting to recall several of his more established players, including the previously first-choice strike pairing of Jonathan Daly and Graham Barrett.
Barrett has been rezoned to midfield for Coventry City this season, while Daly has only just returned from a foot injury that kept him out the under-21s’ last four fixtures.
But Givens has confirmed that O’Flynn, who took his tally for the uner-21s to three with a goal against Poland last week, will definitely keep his place.
"John O’Flynn is one of the first names on the team-sheet," he said. "He has scored three goals in five games for the under-21s and he’s among the top scorers in the eircom League so his record speaks for itself. He will play against Russia.
Cant say Im surprised, its the least he deserves.
