Cup result should stand - Don

Sligo Rovers manager Don O’Riordan believes it would be a supreme injustice if his side were asked to re-play their replay with Shelbourne after referee Dave McKeon admitted he had made an error in failing to send off Rovers midfielder Gareth Gorman.

Gorman was shown two yellow cards during the match without being sent off, and a Uefa Cup precedent exists, whereby a replay was ordered when a similar mistake was made by the match officials in the past.

But O’Riordan insists that Shels would not want the rematch to take place, and is hopeful that his side will take their place in the quarter-final clash with Galway United next month without recourse to another meeting with the league leaders.

He said: "I don’t think Gareth touched the ball after the second yellow card and there was maybe a minute left in the game. Shels boss Pat Fenlon and his players congratulated us after the game. They don’t want a replay. It will be a travesty if there is any other decision than the result standing."
