Bird in line for final return

St Patrick’s Athletic’s top scorer Tony Bird could be set for a return to action in the League Cup final decider against Longford Town at Richmond Park tonight (Monday).

Bird has missed the Saints’ last two games, one as a result of suspension and the other because of a slight neck injury.

Eamonn Collins’s side have been in rude health without their top marksman, however, claiming an easy victory over Dublin City in the FAI Cup before grabbing a vital league victory over Bohemians at Dalymount Park on Friday night.

Bird’s replacement Jamie Harris very much to the fore in the victory over the reigning champions, scoring one and setting up the other as the Saints consolidated their third place position in the league, closing the gap on leaders Shelbourne to just two points.

Former Kidderminster Harriers striker Bird has netted eleven times for the Saints this season.
