Peadar, I've been laughing at all your posts on this subject, you really highlight why people would gladly let ye all f*ck off and form this mythical 'Peoples Republic of Cork'!

The sour grapes jibe doesn't doesn't wash, anyone (including Harry or any Drog fans who have posted) who thinks that the re-scheduling of the match had an effect on the result are kidding themselves. I expected us to be well beaten, and we were.

My only gripe is the manner in which we were treated. Yes, you were under no binding obligation to stick to a Saturday game, but we have always accomodated travelling teams as best we can even when under no obligation. I understand that this issue effects you every 2nd week and I understand why people want to put their foot down and do their best for Cork City FC, but to claim that Drogheda have to pay for the problems caused to you by other clubs is petty to say the least.

Well done on Friday night, good performance by a good team, but Cork City did themselves no favours in the long run by reneging on the agreement.

And on the general topic, going back on an agreement with a club will do Cork no favours at all.

Agreed

But ..... Drogs knew of this rule change for months beforehand as were every other club. They abviously failed to plan properly and now they are hold City to blame ..... THAT is not on either.

I'm glad you're laughing because for the most part I was just winding you up.
At the end of the day no one on this board was responsible for the scheduling of the fixture or will be for future fixtures so there's not really much point us going on about it.
Drogheda should sort this out with Cork City FC.
We're going to turn a lot of people against us simply by having Pat Dolan as manager so I don't expect this to be the last run in we have with an away team over administration.
It will be one helluva long season if we get embroiled in every dispute.

Interesting stuff I must say. But I'm not disputing the result, we were hammered and thats it. But my point is that 1. An agreement was not adhered to 2. Our clubs preparations were disrutped.

1. Perhaps, bu i imagine city felt the rule change made any such agreement null and void and as soon as the rule change came into effect reverted all home fixtures to friday night

2. how?

"Welching"...."Sly tricks" etc. etc.
What whinging and moaning.
And all this from the club who should have been thrown out of the league for all their stunts, double-dealing and downright dishonesty.
Don't make me laugh....or puke with the irony of it all...

Three fellow Drogheda supporters and I intended traveling to the game but couldn’t take off work at short notice when we became aware of the timing change. I am disgusted. Cork had an agreement with Drogheda to play the games on Saturday. Drogheda kept their part of the agreement earlier in the season, much to their financial cost. Cork reneged on theirs. Fact. People like Joe, Counting Crow, Corner, SÓC, et al can say whatever they like, but don’t you understand what the word “agreement” means? Some of your comments almost suggest that you don’t. Well, many of us could not travel to the game as a result of Cork gamesmanship.
Already this season, I enjoyed traveling to Derry, Finn Harps and Waterford where I met many, decent, like-minded supporters. I wish them well in all their games since then. However, I am unimpressed by the lack of integrity shown by the management of Cork City… and frankly by some of the above comments. I doubt if I will be in a rush to travel to Cork next time. You are welcome to the three points but really 'lose-lose' all round.

i've said as much on another thread but i don't see why city couldn't have played the game on the saturday night, i don't think it would have greatly affected our attendance.

i think the agreements we've had with derry, longford and drogs in the past have been good for all concerned, and i think we should have seen out the season as we started it, honouring these agreements.

having said that, anyone who suggests that driving down on friday compared to driving down on saturday would have affected the results is being silly.

there's already been too much rubbish with fixture changes this year, hopefully this is the last of it.

I don't think it has been mentioned yet, and I'm not making excuses, but Saturday = Slane. If Drogs thought that traffic was bad around the pale on Friday, Saturday must have been like New York City after a power cut. Add to that the crowd at Turners Cross would have been 1000 less probably.

Good business dosen't equal Good sportsmanship.

Why can't we all just get along.

At this point I'd just like to suggest to any Drogs fans, if they can, to check exactly what sort of 'agreement' the two clubs had/have

No doubt it's written on a beer mat and in the inside pocket of Harry McCue's Saturday suit jacket. He doens't get to wear the suit much so he's not quite sure what the agreement was about :D

Well Conor74 - ill have you know that the drogs made a bigger deal out of this at least a week and a half/ 2 weeks before the match - not just after our 4 nil trashing.

Its not sour grapes - no matter what they the match was on we wouldve got trashed. Travelling down on the saturday wouldnt have made any difference to the outcome of the match.

Cork shafted us - because despite what is said here, I know for a fact that there was an agreement between the 2 clubs - i dont think anybody has denied this, not even cork officials - so going along that line like, 'show us the agreement' is just pathetic.

This argument is getting boring now, so i reckon its time to leave.
Ill see ye all down at the cross at the end of the season - hopefully we wont require the points to stay up!!!

Good Luck

as i said above i suggest you check what exactly was in the 'agreement' because from what i've heard the comments above about it were well wide of the mark, ie signed agreement for all cork v drogheda matches

Can Sellafield really be to blame for the mental state of Louth folk?

Iceman the Ireland U21 game is on in the RSC on the night you were due to play Waterford, what were you lot going to do if you didn't agree to the switch?
Turn up and demand a game?
Can't wait to hear the excuses when Waterford beat you 5-1.
Go back to smuggling sheep across the border, it's all your good for.
