Well no Slane this year, but who could fill Slane ??
3 concerts in Croke Park this year and none sold out. Who could sell 80,000 ticketss.
Not looking for the right band or the wrong band, but simpley who could sell 80,000 and have a sell out in Slane ??
I think Springsteen could for 1 ??
Springsteen, Rolling Stones, a reformed Pink Floyd, Radiohead*, Westlife*, Bob Dylan, Neil Young*
* if they hadn't already played/be playing this summer

westlife didn't sell out croke park and that was less than slane.
Don't think Neil Young could sell 80k.
Stones, did that sell out. Think it did.
Suppose U2 as well.

I was disgusted that Prince couldn't sell out Croker. Are people not into good music in this country or what?
Yeah U2 would as well, Stones sold out alright, and didn't Westlife play a few nights in Croke?
Prince didn't sell out because there has been a huge variety of over-priced gigs this summer, but he sold 60,000 tickets and would have probably got another 10,000 through the gates before the gig happened had it not been cancelled a few days previously

Springsteen has already played this Summer OP.;)
Arctic Monkeys would easily fill Slane as well.

not a chance.
I know Springsteen has played, its not literal question my good man.
Daniel O'donnell and all his mob might fill it, but only with a tea bar:D

Bon Jovi? Had about 70,000 in Punchestown, similar number in Croke Park in '06, with the right support they'd easily fill Slane.
Looks like they won't be touring again for 3-4 years though.

Think the price had something to do with that
Metallica could probably sell about 60,000 tickets, dunno about the full 80,000 though

agreed, there honestly are very few acts that can sell 80k these days.
RHCP were mentioned here in work, but i'm not sure about them either.
I think they'll have to go with 2/3 major acts to fill it to be honest.

AD/DC, Led Zepplin, U2 and possibily Rage Against the Machine.
With the ticket prices at the minute its not as attractive any more, bands like the ones mentioned above would be the best bets off the top of my head.
Rage would fill it if they were not doing Oxygen this summer.
Metallica have toured here too much lately so the whole experience isn't quite so unique any more. They really need this new album to be quality.
U2 will always sell out in Ireland.
Couldn't see Rage selling 80k tickets to be honest, not unless they had acts like Queens of the Stone Age on the support card

Think people are picking their favourites here rather than looking at the most popular groups.
U2 would easily fill it, Coldplay and probably Oasis still with any sort of decent support and maybe the Chillies or Bon Jovi with very good, similar support acts.
As for me I'll have an Oasis/Verve joint headliner please.
While Westlife are more popular than all the above, I wouldn't like to see all those 11-year olds making that hour-long slog through the castle grounds.

Elvis, even now...
it would help if the act could actually turn up:D
Zepplin would be the best bet so far apart from U2 me thinnks

Arctic Monkeys would fill Slane.
They sold out two days in Malahide Castle last year and have since gone from strength to strength. They've headlined Glasto, which is a far bigger ocasion than Slane.

I knew that would be brought up:p
I haven't a scooby doo.
Probably fook all seeing as they were playing in the Marquee as well and they haven't that great a following over here.

There were a good few; I was eavesdropping in the GAA Club next door, but it was a good crowd. Though I've no idea what Marlay Park holds for concerts.

Madonna couldn't sell it out last time. Jackson hasn't toured in so long that it is hard to know.
Grath brooks, i think he could sell it out and more than once.

(Not exactly his kind of venue, but he could sell a few tickets!)
Was Paul McCartney mentioned?

Madonna couldn't sell it out last time.Like Prince, I reckon cost had a massive impact on the number of tickets sold for Madonna, IIRC it was close to €100. Since it was on Sunday instead of Saturday, there were only 3 acts on the day, Madonna, Paul Oakenfold and Iggy & The Stooges. By comparison, a weekend + camping ticket for Oxegen was about €170.

cost is something that is set, 80k is the target. The promotor and the artist can get it wrong so if they don't sell enough its their own fault.

Arcade Fire would have a good stab at it IMO. Slane should be a festival type gig anyway with 3 or 4 top class headliners. last time I went was the Verve supported by the Manics and a surprisingly excellent Robbie Williams. actually theres someone who'd deffo fill it on his own as would the newly reformed Take That

Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney are good shouts but the rest wouldn't fill it. Madonna and Jackson would be too expensive for them, Madonna doesn't have the fanbase some people assume she does, and Jackson, well we all know why he's lost so many fans. Bands like the Arctic Monkeys and Arcade Fire wouldn't come close. Robbie Williams is washed up at this stage, and Take That wouldn't be able to sell 80k, 40-50k I'd say, but not 80

Would love to see AC/DC in Slane!
The Who, jackson is reforming the jackson 5 isn't he? chilli peppers can do it no problem, U2 obviously, Foo Fighters, AC/DC and metallica (both with good support acts).
Arctic Monkeys would fill Slane.

seriously doubt that !

How about Muse? They completely sold out Wembley stadium. Slane about same capacity? and they're an excellent live band too.

Don't think Foo Fighters would do it as a headline act. They'd need a decent support bill. Did they sell out Marley Park last year? They supported the Chilis in Slane a few years ago and it was probably the worst I've seen them play live.

I doubt any of those but U2. Saw the Who last year in a comfortably full Marquee and that's about the size venue they'd sell out here. Saw Metallica in the RDS on the St Anger tour and there was no shortage of tickets. That's less than half the size of Slane.

a lot of talk of support acts, but who could do it without a major support act. They act have to be able to sell 80k tickets without a big name support act to sell 20k on this their ticket.
Few names mentioned can do it and some are picking their own favourites and are living in the clouds if a band that has sold 30k can suddenly sell 80k by themsevles.
U2, Springsteen, Fully reformed LZ, Guns N Roses, Paul McCartney. Thats about it me thinks. Maybe ac/dc but lets face it, some people thinking a band can fill slane after 2 albums and selling two nights in a small venue in dublin is a joke to be honest.

Best live band tourning these days but no chance they'd sell out Slane. They're struggling to sell out Marley Park at the moment.
Garth Brooks could sell Slane twice. He's massivly popular still, and the cheese factor would appeal to a lot of people too. He's officially "retired" from touring, but has done a few charity gigs recently in US. During them he kept mentioning stories about "when" he goes back touring. It'd be a battle between Croker and Slane to get him.

Arctic Monkeys wouldn't fill half of slane. Remember, 80k is a lot of people, and we're stuggling to find acts that would get that many, from such bonafide huge artists as The Boss and U2. Malahide Castle was 10k are far as I remember.
