Keely adds new faces to squad

Derry City manager Dermot Keely has captured the signings of former Northern Ireland under-21 international Gordon Simms and ex-Portsmouth defender Lee Molyneaux as he bids to strengthen his squad for the remainder of the season.

Simms was released by English Third Division side Hartlepool United at the end of last season, having spent two seasons at the club but making only eight appearances.

The 22-year-old began his career with Wolves as a trainee in 1997, where he spent four seasons, and although he never made the breakthrough at Molineux, he was a regular in the North’s underage international sides throughout that time.

Keely also signed central defender Molyneaux for the remainder of the season. The 20-year-old came up through the ranks at Portsmouth before being released by the club at the end of last season.

Both players will be available for Derry’s next league tie against Waterford United this coming Friday night.

The Candystripes are desperate to get some much needed points on the board as they bid to avoid becoming embroiled in a relegation struggle, and after last week’s disappointing Cup exit at the hands of First Division Galway United, the Foylesiders could do with a morale-boosting result when they make the longest journey to the Regional Sports Centre to meet the Blues tomorrow (Friday).
