Ive ORB installed and can manage to stream my pics and music with little or no problems but my video is a different story you have to go online through the PS3 and link into your PC now i can get into the folder and see the vids but when i press play all i get is this buffering ( spinning clock face ) thing thats been going now for 10 mins with out any playback.

Any one any better programs or ideas how to stream over a local network maybe instead of a internet type one.

Ive a wireless network but everything is wired up through the router the PS3 can find the info on my external and can play the music just fine but not the vids.

What format is the video? This is a total guess, but I can imagine a situation where the PS3 doesn't play nice with WMVs.

This is why i want to stream rather than convert them and copy over to the HD

Actually, I just had a word with him there, and he's using TVersity, he's never even heard of TwonkyVision! I had been doing some reading on media servers earlier in the year, and guess it was stuck in the back of my head.
Still, alls well that ends well.

List of media servers for streaming to PS3 here: http://www.joystiq.com/2007/05/28/20-upnp-clients-that-may-stream-to-your-playstation-3/
it might be a little out of date though
if you are familiar with Linux, I'd recommend MythTV, or LinuxMCE, although LinuxMCE works best on a dedicated machine
alternatively, here's a list of UPnP streaming servers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UPnP_AV_MediaServers

according to the TVersity homepage, the release candidate for TVersity 1.0 is out soon, might be worth waiting for
