A couple of questions I'd be grateful for someone's help with :

1) Longford Town was founded at a meeting in the Temperance Hall. What street is/was that Hall in ?

2) When did the club leave Abbeycartron ?

3) When did the club play at Strokestown Rd ?

4) When did yees move to Flancare ?

Thanks for any help,

Steve

New Street,
Can't remember (beer and/or lack of sleep fecking up my memory cells)
When we left Abbeycartron
Strokestown Road & Flancare are the same place. It was only because the meeja couldn't handle Mullologher that it was ever Strokestown Road :D

I think we moved to Mullologher around 1993 or so, could be off a year or two. Where's Marty when you want him?!..Strokestown Road became Flancare Park in 2000/2001,I think it was late 2000.

What kind of quiz is it anyway that has all these LTFC questions?.

Out of curiosity was there ever an earlier town club before 1924 ?
In other words anyone know when game first played in the town ?

Was Longford a garrison town ?

If so, football would've been played locally for decades. If not, then hard to know when the game made it there.

On the route up to Abbeycarton Road is a Barrack Road so hopefully Longford was always well protected.

I have a question, Abbeycarton road became Abbeycartron ground 200 yards further on, was this a townland name or is there another reason/
Or do I have each name mixed up?

Abbeycartron is the townland name of that area. The area gets its name from the fact that just down from where the football ground is there used to be a monstaic Abbey.

sparkey, thanks for the reply, but I am also wondering about the name of the old ground. Was it AbbeycarTON rather than A-tron or was that an error on the part of reportage?
The road is Abbeycarton Road, yes?

The ground was and still is Abbeycartron. Anything else is an error plain and simple.
