View Full Version : Highest Payed Players In Division 1
Wes Charles is reported to be on €700 a week plus Free meals and accomodation.
Is any other club matching this in wages?
I know Wes is a full time pro.
IMO a savage waste of money considering the meals & board is like a tax free extra 25%.
I hope no other 1st division club is paying anything like those wages.
The French FA make all players and staff of relegated clubs take a 20% pay cut to ensure all the clubs survive financially. Might not be a bad decision in the eL either considering the finances of some of the clubs at present.

I think our wages are way to high we got one of the highest wage bills in the 1st Division and look were we are in the league good job we get crowds of around 1300-1500 for our home games or we would be in real big trouble

I'd imagine Gary Haylock is on more than Charles...

I'd say that Derek O'Brien is on a fair whack! For all the good he does!

700 a week plus meals and accomodation..jaysus i know a fair few longford players would be well happy with that money..Sounds like a complete waste to me, he's not even that good if the times i've seen him are anything to go by..not bad but not worth 700 brick in Div 1..
He got Wanderers player of the month for July. He is a real favorite with fans. Bray have a massive squad they have used 26 players this season so far.

it does sound like a lot but i think they'll look at it as money well spent if he helps to get them promoted. where are they getting the money from though, are the attendances and sponsorship that good???
I'd say sponsorship. Their was 6000 at the Blackburn Rovers match, they even had temp bucket seats. Support has to be down on last year. I think their was 400/500 at the Athlone match. They also got money from the sale of Jason Byrne. The reason he joined Bray was Sligo could not afford his wages.

Think thats a bit sad for football in ireland that can get 6k for that game - i presume a lot of tickets were sold before Duff left Blackburn cos they got no real stars of any note?

Is Gary Haylock not on €1,000 a week at Dundalk?

The reason Wes left Rovers was because he fell out with the manager not money

I think not for much longer. Fair play to him for getting Dundalk to give him a contract like that, he must talk a good game:D
Some of the players at Dundalk though are pure mercenaries.
Although some have moved on to de Drogs.
