Had a busy weekend Stann so haven't got around to it yet, but I'll stick it on my IPod later tonight and run through it. Apologies for the delay
I have given it a few spins over the weekend. Good stuff alright. There's a laid back feel to a lot of it, like track 2 & 3, which went down well in our household this weekend; with enough variety that it didn't cross over into a Ray D'arcy territory, it should be said.

I'm way behind lads as I was out of the country for a few days and catching up with work to make up. Transfering Noby and Stanns to the Ipod this evening. Tuppence worth asap.

Not at all, just said I'd offer my services in case you were still having technical difficulties. So Block G DJ, you can go ahead this week. And I can go next week unless someone (Lionel I'm looking at) wants to do a chilling Hallowe'en-themed special?
Stann, I must also admit to not having listened to your crazy covers. Gave my brother my computer for the weekend forgetting that the CD was inside it! Just started playing it now though so report will follow post-haste.
Psychological state? Are you my shrink?
Just what I've been listening to mostly lately. Plus, as the first one was mainly upbeat I didn't want to go that route again. Pretend I have a bit of depth and all that.
:D
'Psychological state'! That's a good one alright. Must've been a case of fingers dancing across the keyboard before the brain got a chance to trip them up. Rest assured I'll reprimand them for their indiscretion. You responded to the spirit of my query anyway - was just wondering if there was any particular theme or story you had in mind that bound all the songs together. Amongst other things I was half thinking the sophomore slump may, given the CD's largely sombre mood, have been a double entendre referring to a difficult period in second year in school/college! :D
You really like to read in references that just aren't there, don't you. ;)
While some of those songs coincide with my college years I buck the trend in having a largely happy time in college (although, to be fair "in college" was normally where I wasn't).
The title probably came to me as I listened to Grandaddy - he's always muttering away in the corner.

I profoundly resent the insinuation that my comprehension is sub-par. Either desist from calling me thick or retract that statement and express-post me an olive branch. Thanks.
So Noby categorically humbled, I can move to compliment Stann on his inestimably brilliant Crazy Covers; which over multiple listens the past few days has bestowed upon me unmingled delight. Really like every song, high-flying stars all, but if there was indeed any zenith to be perceived amongst them then I believe it would be The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain's Another Girl, Another Planet. Absolutely love that.
Great work overall, and never strayed into the novelty territory that could've been a danger on a project of this sort. All tracks can be commended in their own right, leading me to believe that the true purpose of the CD was to teach us that replication is acceptable, and should be encouraged to the extent that it is a personalised imitation, not a fastidious duplication. What do you think Noby?
What he said.
(Except replace 'Another Girl...' with 'Cars')

Ta muchly! Tried as much as possible to avoid the D'Arcy-type stylings (or Radio 1 Live Lounge and the like to be fair to him which he doesn't deserve) alright. The laid back feel I only really copped after listening to the full thing, don't know why that is, except maybe that many 'non-straight' covers tend to be of a laid back type - samba or bossanova versions, bluegrass or whatever. Apart from the multitude of punk covers out there, but I stayed even further away from them.

I blush! :o
Ta likewise! Was thinking I might have sent you a different one until you mentioned the Ukulele Orchestra. :D

For out and out bleakness there's El Heath's Winter soundtrack
For something a bit off the wall I also got Strap The Button.
As for the cd, glad An Post are doing such a good job, so I guess it's safe to stick up the tracklist now:
PoLazarus James Carter & The Prisoners (1959)
You Will Miss Me When I Burn Palace Brothers (1994)
Katy Song Red House Painters (1993)
Thirteen Big Star (1972)
The Brute Choir Bonnie Prince Billy (2004)
The Gulag Orkestar Beirut (2006)
The Carny Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (1986)
Her Tindersticks (1993)
Sister Rosetta (Live) Alabama 3 (1998)
Yellow Brick Road Captain Beefheart & his Magic Band (1967)
One Toke Over The Line Brewer & Shipley (1970)
All The Cocaine In The World Webb Brothers (2000)
An Animal Sports Day We Show Up On Radar (2008)
Be Thankful For What You Got William De Vaughn (1974)
Maggot Brain (Live) Funkadelic (1971)
With all due respect to everyone else so far, this is my favourite CD so far. Have been listening to it and Stann's a lot in the last couple of weeks. The Beirut stiff is new to me but I'll certainly be checking them out when I get the chance. The Nick Cave and Captain Beefheart tracks were well chosen and the Animals Sports Day is growing on me. ;) Excellent, excellent CD.

Another well put together CD, favourites include the Hayseed Dixie Radiohead medley and Elbow's Teardrop. Sympathy For the Devil has got a lot of play too. It's made me dig out/download/check out not just the bands themselves, but the bands they covered so I think you can count it as a success. :)
Cheers, TCM, I will so. :)

Sorry to always be the one harping on about it (though obviously not sorry enough not to be doing so :) ), but is this gone again? I see BGR hasn't been on in a while.

Was thinking the same. I have mine ready to go anyway so I'll post them on Monday. Could someone send me on a list of addresses again?

I'll have these out tomorrow lads. My CD Drive is still giving me trouble so I'm gonna work off my mate's laptop and get it done

Posted out this morning lads, hopefully will be with you tomorrow.
I have two spares if anyone else is interested for this round, don't know why I have two extra envelopes and two extra CDs this time, could be cause I was drunk whilst burning them last night :)
Anyway, if anyone wants a copy this round just PM me your address and I'll throw one out to you

Got your CD there Jebie, thank you. Cool cover - you know you were a lot cuter as a child. Like the look of the tracklist as well, 2 through 6 are particularly whetting my appetite. Will give it a few spins later.
By the way, I believe I may have intimated a few weeks ago that I was set to release my very own sophomore slump, well I was, and am (no production difficulties, nor indeed record label fractiousness), but have just been very busy of late (saving the world and what-not) and am away from this evening to Wednesday so it's probably best if someone else takes next week and I'll happily go the week after next as my CD is practically settled (though no cover yet!). Sorry for causing any confusion (jebus) or indeed cantankerousness (stann). I'll be back to my reliable self after Wednesday. :)

Fail has been fighting off all comers in the car stereo all weekend, Jebus, it's rather good indeed. :)
Must say the standard of these CDs overall has been exceptionally high, but this quite possibly tops the lot so far, or comes very close.
So many highlights. Brilliant start through the first 6 tracks, and a very strong finish with the last 4. The inclusion of Range Life and the Creedence version of Heard It Through The Grapevine is inspired.
Loads of stuff I've not heard before but will be checking out - Gui Boratto (what tune is that?), Tegan & Sara (who I keep hearing good things and really must investigate), Midlake and The National.
Three thumbs up!
Gui Boretto track is called Like You I believe. I got it off a blank CD that my mate burned of Gui's stuff and he didn't include the track listing, but I think it's Like You
Full Track Listing
1. Yann Tiersen - Noutava
2. Hot Chip - And I was A Boy From School
3. Neon Neon - Raquel
4. Gui Boretto - Like You
5. The Teenagers - Homecoming (Gentleman Driver Mix)
6. Digitalism - Pogo
7. The Blow - Pile Of Gold
8. Tegan & Sara - The Con
9. Midlake - Head Home
10. Skin, Flesh & Bones - Solitary Man
11. The Paragons - Happy Go Lucky Girl
12. She & Him - Sentimental Heart
13. Pavement - Range Life
14. The National - Start A War
15. Smokey Robinson - Betcha By Golly Wow
16. Creedence Clearwater Revival - Heard It Through The Grapevine

ahh well done! of all the 'ment songs that'd be the one i'd choose for a mix cd too - a diss for stone temple pilots and smashing pumpkins in the same song, what's not to love ;) looks like you're all having fun in this thread!

Just letting you know I got the CD ok Jevus, will report back here tomorroe with thoughts.
Got the cd. Gave it a quick listen the end of last week. Not sure if it's the cd or my old stereo, but it only plays on my laptop, which has seriously curtailed it's airing ( along with the fact that my 4y/o daughter saw a bit of Mamma Mia, so ABBA hasn't left the stereo all weekend. I do like a bit of ABBA, but I must have heard Mamma Mia about 40 times on Saturday). Anyway, I digress. I'll get around to re-burning it and give it a fair crack this week.

Greetings old friends. I don't get to post on foot.ie much these days and I'm sure many of ye don't either but I just wanted to thank all involved in this initiative. 5 or 6 years after the fact I'm still listening to these compilations. Found a bunch of them recently and stuck em on the pod. They're often the closest thing to new music I encounter even if the newest stuff involved is 6 years old at this stage. Sometimes, on a rare night out, someone'll enquire if I've heard X new album by X new band and I have to reply that if Dora didn't do it, Bob didn't build it or Makka Pakka didn't mainline it I haven't a clue what you're talking about.

All of mine are left in Ireland, sadly.
But your thread-bump has induced me to dig up tracks from them on Spotify.

Greetings yourself, Lionel, thanks for pulling the thread up again, good to read after six years, Jesus!
Funny thing, have had a bunch of these in the car the last couple of weeks - Jebus' Fail!, Noby's Sophomore Slump, Kingdom Hoop's Hoop Hoop Hurrah!, and your own Whoa What A Feeling among them. Given a bit of rooting time I could still lay hands on every one, I reckon. Great stuff!

Ah go on then. I'll join in.
Six years on I might have lost a little bit of touch with what the kids are listening to these days, but can always go the golden oldie route I suppose, so include me in too.
There was more than this one thread too BonnieShels, meant to say that before. A couple more IIRC, the whole thing went at least three rounds, plenty more to peruse! Will try dig the other ones up later when I get a mo.
Ok, so thats four. Glad to see Stann signing up, he delivered a great CD as far as I recall when I did it. Will we wait for another to join us ?

Ha, possibly gained a bit in the memory, but it'd be churlish not to appreciate the sentiment! :D
You did a fine one yourself though if I remember right, Spacemen 3, Tindersticks, Orbital and all.
Just adding those other threads now in case they were missed, the second (http://foot.ie/threads/111322-Foot-ie-Music-Exchange-2009) and third (http://foot.ie/threads/126688-Foot-ie-Music-Exchange-Version-3-0-(looking-for-sign-ups)) rounds of this were on separate ones.
