Sunderland fans would complain if their club name was repeatedly misspelt throughout the launch issue of a national circulation publication, and they'd be right to. Perhaps you think eL fans deserve less.[/QUOTE]
This seems like nit picking in the extreme - and somewhat patronising too. EVERYBODY calls 'Bohemian' Bohemians. A very forgiveable minor error. And it would be practically impossible to spell SUNDERLAND incorrectly. Give it a go.... SUNDRELAND? SLUMBERLAND?... See?
Look forward to the seeing the magazine. The people behind it deserve encouragement.

It was in there the other day, very good news if it's already sold out. The staff on the other hand......

Just to let ye know I was in town (in Waterford) today and found out that next months issue will be on sale in The Book Centre in John Roberts Square in the centre of the city.
I picked one up today... haven't had a chance to read it but it looks absolutely fantastic. Great photo, beautifully put together. Looks like a top class sales brochure. That said, they'd want to triple the content to justify the price.

Absolutely thrilled with the magazine but 2 things struck me about the way it was launched and if they continue in this way it wont succeed.
Firstly was the fact that a fellow was selling it out of a suitcase in dalymount last sunday. If it were me i would have had 6 lads all holding them up at the entrance to sell them to punters entering.
Secondlt it was launched on sunday but there wasnt a mention of it on MNS the following night.

was at the entrance to rams the other with buddy of mine, and we met the editor of the magazine, he was asking could he sell the magazine in the club, or club shop, my firend has contacts in the club thankfully, and he sorted it.. But it took 3 committee mebers to sort this situation out, quite simple the man was sellin a mag promoting the league and all certain members of the club were worried about was how much the club would make amd the issues involced in letting him sel the magazine inside the ground, a absolute farce as far as im concerned, proper mag for the league very porfessionally put together( bar the lack of diversity in it a.k.a very much a dublin based issue, hope it will change in that sense) and exactly what the club needs so best of luck to the editors and if the editors have any of the editors have issues with clubs they should let the members of foot.ie know, the vocal ones and it will be sorted.
Congrats to all involved

A valid concern IMO.

Bought a Copy of it in Easons in Dundrum of all places. Seemed to have sold quite a few copies too. Very good read and hopefully they get the Sales figures to eventually go Monthly instead of Bi-Monthly

Also it will undoubtedly hit programme sales
Pats are selling it. Even have a poster for it in the window of 125. haven't had a chance to get a copy myself yet though

Narrow-minded minnowism if clubs won't sell it in the ground.
That said - I hope the first that Ramblers heard about this guy looking to sell the magazine through their shop wasn't when he turned up in-person on match day.
I really hope this magazine works out, but they seem to be combining a very professional-looking publication with an amateur-approach to sales. They should have written to all the club in advance of it being launched etc. Maybe they did, but the fact no-one here mentioned it before it appeared on Setanta TV would suggest not.
They've just started posting about it on club websites - following suggestions here and elsewhere that they do that - which is good. Though they still haven't come back to my email request for a subscription for example, or a list of shops in Derry that I can direct me ma towards. Again - professional production, but thus far questionable sales and marketing capabilities. And if they don't crack sales it won't last - no matter how good the thing looks.
Narrow-minded minnowism if clubs won't sell it in the ground.
As noted above, clubs must be very careful what is sold in the ground. Given that the clubs have no control over the content and the FAI agreement containing rules about criticism of the association etc. then it's only natural that clubs would be cautious, especially if caught on the hop like Cobh seemed to be.

I don't buy into this arguement. I think thed FAI would struggle to fine a club for selling a third-party magazine that everyone knows the club concerned has no editorial input into, or control over.
Should clubs get fined if national TV companies ever criticise the FAI, on the basis that they let RTE/Setanta broadcast from their gronds ? Where do you draw the line....?
I don't think the clubs would mind selling anything if they make a couple of quid on it but if someone just turns up and starts selling cans of coke or sweets never mind magazines, they've every right to turf them out

Makes sense for special vendors for the launch, so that it gets attention, but I agree that thereafter clubs should get the cut of sales, just as Eason etc do. That way, they will be more likely to push it.
Not even the FAI could be dim enough to think they could fine clubs over content in an independent publication.

I would be out of interest yes Martinho.
Tried Easons in O'Connell St yesterday ... No joy
Went on to Easons in Heuston Station ... No joy
On the good side though, managed to get it in Eason in Athlone when I got home :)
Not a bad read and €4 is a decent price.
Only thing though was that I had it read from cover to cover in less than 30 minutes.

I'm looking for a copy Martinho, and the buggers still haven't answered me email about subscriptions or shops in Derry !
Plus their website is just a holding page.
I get the feel these guys are just dipping their toe in the water with the first issue - checking to see how it goes, rather than goiing all for it from Issue 1 to really push it as a success. I hope they see enough of whatever it is they're looking for to commit further.
Meanwhile - can anyone get me a copy and send it to London ? You'll be handsomely rewarded *
(* Well - cost, plus postage plus price of a pint anyway... :))

Got it in a shop in Bray today. It's an excellent idea and I hope they succeed with it. However, reading the 'typos' in the editorial was a bit off-putting- it looked like sloppy work. 'got me threw', 'love to here from you'. It couldn't be that hard to have read it over before they went to print surely? Small gripe, as I say I hope it's a success. Would have been an idea to have 'Next issue on sale- date' at the back.

Got my copy today in Eason in Newbridge. Great to see an Irish soccer magazine. Decent issue; some silly spelling and grammar mistakes and stuff like that which can take away from it's image, but hopefully they are teething problems.
Keep up the good work with it.

I think most people have got a copy of the magazines first issue by now and had a chance to digest it and make comment on it. I welcome it whole heartedly and have to say i enjoyed it, not out of support for anything related to the league but i genuinely enjoyed it as it was a good read, informative and had a good take on things.
One thing that did strike me was the lack of adverts throughout the magazine. I counted 5 pages and one of those pages was two half page ads. I would worry about this if it were a few issues in as i'd wonder how they could sustain it without this revenue. This would have to improve if they intend to see past a year of print. I wonder would they contact the people who have previously tried to launch magazine and see what pitfalls they encountered.
Anyway .... the purpose of this thread, what would you like to see happening with it as regards policy or mission? For me there is only one thing at the moment.
I would like them to focus on the relationship between junior and senior football. I think this is a vital element in the Irish game and something which needs to be addressed and i also think its an endless supply of content. I'd like to see them trying to foster better relationships between all those involved and break down any barriers that exist.

Really enjoyed the first one. The obvious things were the few typos but Id imagine the lads noticed this themselves.
Some things I think might be interesting to see:
Keep up the one for the future(dunno if this was planned already) Profile the up and coming younster at clubs over the next couple of years. One club/player per issue.
The next issue should be around the transfer window so maybe some transfer talk. Who's going where and how it will affect the title race etc.
Itl also be Europe time so something that way could be interesting. maybe follow a clubs fans to an away game. The planning, travel, experience match etc.
