View Full Version : Realistic Transfer Targets

Alright lads, lets throw a few names out that realistically would could go out and get to improve our first eleven. The areas that most need highlighting in the current squad for me are a right back, a target man up front and a creative winger. If Jimmy's not going to be playing much then we need to look to get a keeper in, as young Davy isn't up to standard at the moment (could come good with a bit of A League experience though. With that in mind I'd recommened,
Peter White for right back, it's a done deal anyway but this guy should have been signed up at the start of the season. Was by far and away our most improved player in recent seasons, and is a better option than Daly, who looks out of his depth
Colm Heffernan for right midfield, we could really do with someone who can take on his man and get a cross in
Alan Barry for target man, myself Gael and LtId were talking about this last night and we feel (at least I think it was agreed on) that we're too lightweight at the moment and get pushed around in the box too easily. We need someone who will pretty much start giving a few knocks back and is a danger from set pieces, and to that end I was impressed with Alan when he was with us a few years back and think he could be a useful player to have alongside someone pacy like Bruton, with Carthy playing behind them

im mortified for you, peter whites been with us for the last six weeks. how much did you have to drink again? id like to see Alan Barry back but Kerley had him in the second year at Pike and i dont think they went well together. Heffo, if 4/5 others are signed in with next year in mind. Liam Barrett is already gone (states) so others will have to go to free up what limited finances we have. I could start naming my preferred departures but i shant be doing this on the net.
IMP our team is soft. We need some, one or two hard ****ers who will just kick the hard ****er of the opposing team off the field. The other night we played a very "agricultural" team. The wexford fans were impressed by our number four (Danagher) a type of player they admired that would fit into their team perhaps? We need a keeper, i big no nonsence center half/left back, two wingers and a big striker. Start your ins and outs section now signings start on the 31st.
This is our squad at the moment....
1 Jimmy Fyfe (GK)
2 David Ryan (GK)
3 Tommy Barrett
4 Pat Purcell (inj)
5 Wayne Colbert
6 Derek McCarthy
7 Peter White
8 Brian Cleary
9 Shane Tracy (inj)
10 Ross Cosgrove
11 Paraic Fogarty
12 James Hayes
13 Chimka Manjor
14 Brendan Daly
15 Evan Quinlivan
16 Bobby Gregg (inj)
17 Paul Danaher
18 Donie Curtin
19 Jonathan Grant
20 Dave Ryan
21 Darren Harington
22 Willie Bruton
Has he been playing? I thought he was just signing on :o

Is Damien O' Rourke signing with 37. Kerley was supposed to come out and watch him but never did?:(
Kevin Waters is apparantly a contender for being released down in Waterford as well lads

Like to see Waters, Alan Barry, Finnucane, Chucka, Austin o Neill, Joey Malone, Robbie K, and Davey Wall come back.
Heffernan are Harnett are also 2 names that will pop up. If we were in a posistion to sign a few of these id be a happy fish.

Agree with pretty much all those signings. would love to see austin o neill back, i think he'd be a much more solid keeper than ryan. If we got even 4 or 5 of those players it would seriously strengthen the squad.

I don't think Davy Wall has the interest anymore to be honest,I've watched him all season and he's mostly looked uninterested bar a few glimpses here and there.

Maybe he just had no interest in playing for Pike.

Not too sure that he looks disinterested, more that playing first team football has been a step too soon to be honest

If that was the case,he'd had left by now, which he hasn't.
You'd be doing well to get Buckley/Barry back. Along with Alan Caroll. Robbie K isn't anywhere near LOI fitness standards and wouldn't be worth taking on til next season at least.

Maybe this is why he was only kickin a ball about at half time during the match against kildare a couple of weeks ago.

Odd, they posted a thread a few weeks/months ago saying he had to retire from the game, there was quite a few tributes to the man too.

Wishing I'd been born in Barcelona presumably :)
Seriously though, there was a thread about Aussie retiring a few months back, both myself and SLK posted in it so maybe he can back me up, either that or the drugs really do not work kids

ya i was agreeing with you that he might be retired cause instead of practising shots being takin on him etc..he was only kickin a ball about with the subs at half time.

Players I'd like to see back include:
from last season:-
Kevin Waters
Joey Moloney (think he's with Castlebar Celtic now)
Finny
Chucka
Dave Wall
also:
Keith Harnett
Shane Clarke
For keeper, I've seen Mooney play for Cappamore in 1A this season, maybe a senior comeback is on the cards ! ;) :D
Seriously though, Ger Barron.
Saw Robbie Kelliher for Fariview last week, really doesnt look anything special at the moment sadly.

....also, could Nigel Keady be prised away from Athlone ?
Waters isn't getting a game at Waterford anymore and could be released in the transfer window

Would hate to loose Kevin Waters. His chances in " The Blues " startinng
11 this season have been limited due to the brilliant form of our current
number 11 Michael Foley. But I like him and would love to keep him, and
I think Gareth Cronin will too !

The reason Waters is leaving Waterford is because Gareth Cronin doesn't rate him, they don't get on, and Waterford are paying €400 a week to a player thats warming the bench, if he's even doing that....
He sadly seems to want to put money as his first priority, so we won't be signing him, and I'd say the only ones who would sign him now are Cobh but he'll be bench warming there as well as I'd say he wouldn't get on too well with Henderson either.

I wonder if there would be any chance of a loan move for waters though???

I wonder if there would be any chance of a loan move for waters though???We'd still have to cover his wages, which cannot be afforded.
Jofspring

in a loan move i thought the team taking the player on loan only pay a precentage of the wages or does that just come down to the agreement the two teams come to.
joeSoap
20/05/2008, 11:46 AM
Agreement between clubs, depending on whether the club want to loan the player out for experience, or because they can't afford him. In Waters case they can't afford to be paying someone who is not playing, so I can't see there being too much leeway.

Colm Carroll from Cork City??? Played against him a couple of times and he was top notch right up there with Wayne Colbert... If you could prize him away that would be a coup and a half....

Agreed, along with Hartnett, that would be 4 great signings for Limerick.
What about David Dunphy of Balla?? Experienced, versatile and has an eye for goal.

kevin waters-contracted
joey maloney-enough softies already
finny-work commitments
chucka-work commitments
dave wall-not good enough
keith hartnett-does this guy prefer to big a big fish in a small pond rather than vice versa
shane clarke-obvious talent
ger barron-apparantly goin across the water for the summer
no keith just prefers the more professional attitude that he gets up in pike.and as for small pond,do,nt forget senior soccer would have died long ago only for the pond that is pike rovers

Dont think he is better than the lad playing there already. Daly has had a good season to date and looks quick and strong.
Dunphy wouldnt be better than him in my opinion.
